Glad to see other reviewers chiming in! How have you found your gen2 Kirk?
#2
Kirk, there may be some reason concern with the gen 2, as seen with s some posts on here, as well as the YouTube channel from RyeOnHam - he unboxes, disassembles, and shots his replacement R51. I'll still buy a gen 2 (despite the plastic trigger), and hope for the best. ;D

I had a gen 1 R51, and currently have an LC9S pro. Short story is the r51 had less recoil, better sight picture, and was more comfortable in my hand.  The LC9S has a very narrow grip,  And the R51 felt more like a ppk. Just my 2 cents.

Check out RyeOnHam on YouTube. He's got a few videos of the gen 2, including 100 rounds of range time.

Glad they're finally sending them out. I got an email about getting my replacement - not sure why, I took the r1 deal about a month ago - contacted them, and they said they sent in by accident.
I can't wait to hear how gen 2 is. I'm looking forward to getting another one when they hit retail if all sounds good.

Kirk, I MOST CERTAINLY mean lied to. I didn't get my info anywhere BUT Remington. I had called or emailed several times - usually every few months - and was either told xx quarter of the current year, or that there is no time line, but they are still being produced. Matter of fact, I was told by the Remington rep that the second gen would be out by that September when I called to send mine in almost 2 years ago.

You said you received your r1 as compensation already - over a year ago, so I'm curious why you're new on these boards. It seems like you're trolling. Obviously you're as welcome as a anyone here, but you just seem to be shitting on people and telling them how  wrong they are. These people just want straight answers and their promised replacement firearm.

As of April 8 2016, the official stance is "there's currently no timeline". The guy I spoke with on the phone said he "heard" they were testing them, but hasn't actually seen one or knew about a timeline. I honestly felt he was trying to keep me from taking the r1 offer more than he actually believed they were making a gen 2 - just my gut.
  I took the r1 offer.

Kirk,I believe you're missing the point. People are upset about being CONTINUALLY lied to. Yes, the 1911 is a good deal - and I just took it - after BEING LIED TO for a year an a half,  and it still stings.

Honestly, I'd rather have gotten my original, perfectly working r51 back, though I know that isn't an option.

Offering a good deal - especially when you fucked up - IS good business, however letting to customers (that's what I'm calling it at this point) is bad business, and I doubt the sting of this will leave many that have waited happy in the end.

Yes, Iklawson,  I agree they have offered compensation, though you'd be hard pressed to find that information - or ANY information for that matter - on the website about the r51.
I believe what my fellow posters mean is that we JUST WANT AN ANSWER. Not inside info, just a "yes, we are producing it and it will be out xxx", or "no, we've stopped production. Pick your compensation."
I've PERSONALLY been getting the runaround for a year and a half with the promise of next quarter almost every time I asked. It is frustrating and insulting to be lied to and led on with no end in sight.
That said, it is with a heavy heart that I inform you all that I finally gave up and took the r1 deal. When it arrives at my ffl, I will sell it to him and buy another easily concealable firearm - probably the ruger lc9s pro.
I wish you all luck, and will stay on the boards to hopefully hear good news. If the r51 gen 2 ever sees the light of day I'll buy it, but I'm no longer going to hold my breath.

Keep our sell it, just DON'T send it back. You have a collector's item - just keep it oiled and clean.

My retort (how I kept from cursing, I don't know)

If you actually READ my email, this was EXACTLY the answer I DIDN'T want.
Frustrating is an understatement as a description of your lack of customer service.
These form letters are sickening, and show that your really don't care about past, present, or future customers.

Their reply:

We appreciate your patience as we continue our efforts to re-launch the R51. Currently we don't have a timeframe for the re-introduction but our Huntsville R&D center is working to have it back on the market as soon as possible.

General Discussion / Getting frustrated

So I just sent this to customer service. Let's see what happens.

As an early adopter of the r51 firearm, I was disturbed to hear about the failure some people were experiencing. I was happy to hear about the replacement program, and foolishly sent in my perfectly working firearm for replacement (it was my edc, and failure is not an option for personal defense). That was one year ago. We (myself and other people on your replacement list) have been patiently waiting for our replacements - some far longer than I. We've been told time and again it will be out in the next out following quarter , or that "there is currently no timeline".  As a community, we are growing increasingly frustrated, and seeing as you've removed ALL mention of the r51 from your website and materials, many of us do not believe we'll ever see a replacement, and your are simply stalling for time.

I'd appreciate this being forwarded to someone in an upper management position so I (we) can get a straight answer about this firearm ever seeing the light of day, rather than the runaround Remington calls customer service.

Thank you for your time, and I hope to hear from someone soon.

My disgust and frustration for this company and their business practices grows daily. If they're not going to replace the r51, they should just say so. I'd love for them to send me back my original firearm (which was working perfectly after several hundred rounds), but I'm sure they'd say it's already been destroyed. I feel duped and misled, and will probably never buy another Remington firearm after what I feel is their blatant and constant disregard for their customers.

Didn't opt for the refund...you have to send a copy of the receipt. You can get the r1 (1911) as a replacement if you send yours in - it's worth more than the refund -, but I suggest you don't. The r51 seems fairly rare now and I'm skeptical about ever seeing a gen 2. You have a collector's item that you can easily unload for double what you paid right now.
