Hi, I'm the new guy.
I live in North Carolina, hoping to retire next year. I bought the R51 when it first came out and have held on to it hoping Remington would get the newest model out and I could replace it. I've shot about 30 rounds through it and it worked flawlessly.

I've contacted Remington about getting a refund for it but just haven't pulled the trigger on sending it back yet. Not interested in the R1 replacement, as I want if for concealed carry.

Was wondering if anyone has sent theirs in for the refund and how long it took to get your money?

Didn't opt for the refund...you have to send a copy of the receipt. You can get the r1 (1911) as a replacement if you send yours in - it's worth more than the refund -, but I suggest you don't. The r51 seems fairly rare now and I'm skeptical about ever seeing a gen 2. You have a collector's item that you can easily unload for double what you paid right now.

yea put that bugger in your safe and leave it there. Hope you still have the box ect. Put a note in there explaining what it is ect.
It is and will be a collectors item.
If your not interested in saving it. Sell it to a collector and buy a new gun. DONT send it back to Remy. They will just destroy it.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Concerning keeping your R51, I would sell it. Here is why: I do believe Remington will come out with a replacement. They are working on it.

After the replacement comes out I think prices will go down on the originals, I think the time to sell it is now.

I would place an ad for it on gunsamerica for maybe $1200.00 or more.

What the heck, ether you are a collector or your not, if not why not make a few bucks?

You can buy another gun for now and when Remington comes out with the new better replacement model R51, you can buy another one.

At the link below is a post by another member who was offered over 1000 for his original R51.

Agree, if you can find a buyer sell it.  Had I know it would take two years to get my replacement I would never have sent mine back.  I don't want a refund, I don't want an R1, I want a new R51 to match my original 51.  I continue to hope they will send me a replacement, but we are now in the second year of them telling me it will be the
2nd quarter."  If I still had mine, I would sell it and buy a new one if they ever come out.  Which reminds me, it is now the second quarter of 2016 so it is time for me to send them another email asking where my replacement is.

Well, thanks to everyone for their thoughts on this. Got several "keep it" and several "sell it" opinions. I am leaning more to keeping it and see what happens. I'm not a gun collector, although I do seem to have some collectibles for some reason.

Although an offer of $1000 or more might change my mind on this one. Who knows. I'll keep my eye on what's going on with the next generation R51, however it sounds not great right now.

Keep our sell it, just DON'T send it back. You have a collector's item - just keep it oiled and clean.
