I entered a post about the racking problem.   I will state again,  go to the Remington
Owners manual on page 16 and 17.  on page 16 it tells you on page 16 para 5 and 6 to lock the slide
fully rearward.
Then on page 17,  para 11 and 12, (way past our Attention span), it  tells you to pull and hold the
slide fully rearward  etc.....
No where does it say you can "rack the slide with a full mag".
Like I said in an earlier post, if Remington had just said in the manual, "do not try to rack the
slide with a full magazine."  It would have saved us a lot of trouble.
But talking to Remington techs is like herding cats.

BTW: If you don't believe me, go read the manual!

So...

  • The Remington manual instructs locking the slide back before inserting full mag.
  • Some have had success racking the slide on a full mag after modifying the follower.
  • Otherwise there aren't any issues racking the slide on mags loaded with six rounds.

Have I got this about right?

SC,
Pretty much hit the nail on the head.  If I am on the range I just slap a mag in, release the slide and
shoot away.  Ammo to my R51 is no problem,  Unless it is a bad round from the factory.
I carry with a round in the pipe, and 7 in the mag.  and keep my finger away from the trigger when I draw.
I just wish Remington had put 1 little sentence in the manual, Do not rack with full magazine
would have saved us some time and headaches.
