When I first shot my R51, the skin on the web of my hand got a bit chewed up. I found that the grip safety edges were machined to sharp edges and shooting forced the safety against my hand and that did it.

I rounded the edges a bit and now it is much more comfortable.
see attached picture.
After rounding and making sure this was a solution, I used some aluminum black anodizing liquid to cover the areas

It's a nice gun. shame Remington did not take care of ergonomics.

The first time I handled my R51 I noticed several sharp edges; so I disassembled and deburred all the sharp edges with a file.

Good job on the mod.  It's probably an area that would have had its' finish worn off anyway.

The back edges of the slide were also quite sharp. i broke those edges and re-blued them.

so far I haven't rounded the sharp edge at the end of the slide. was wondering if the factory warrantee would be ended with any modification. when I do round the sharp edge I am going to put the slide in my mill and actually put a nice radius on it as I really hate to have the blood run down the web of my hand. the worst pistol for hand eating is the walther  ppk I don't ever want to shoot one of those again.

sirbrian,
It is not the slide that is the culprit. It is the lemon squeezer.  If you lock back the slide and hold the pistol in a normal
shooters grip, there is about a 3/8" space between your hand and the bottom of the slide.  I quit worrying about it and
bought a set of shooting gloves.  They feel good, and look cool, for what that is worth.
So many guns, so little time!
