1911SHOOTER

Has anybody else noticed their grip screws getting loose after an extended shooting session?
My little O-rings got trashed taking the factory grips off and putting on the teak grips.
Wonder if Remington will sell us some spares?
Or maybe just some Loctite?

Arlis,
Thanks, but the 1911 screws are almost twice as big.  I sent Remington an email about getting spares, but no answer.
I will try Ace, or Home Depot next.  Once the little O-rings go south that is it.

Wow, $4.40 for an O-Ring.

If you have a Family Center, Farm and Home close, try them.

Mine has an unbelievable selection of "O" rings.

Hi Guys, My grip O rings did the same thing when I changed the grip panels. ACE Hardware has a really large selection of O rings. I found the right size and fixed things right up. FRED

Ranger,
Thanks, a bunch.   My screws have a tendency to get loose when I am shooting.

I'm going to have to take a close look at mine.  I don't remember seeing any o-rings when I changed the grips.

Dutch,
They may have stayed on the screws.  That is what the o-rings did on my gun.
I still check the tightness of the screws  every time I come back from the range.

I just looked closely for the grip screw o-rings.  They are not present on the screws holding the new wooden grips, they are not in the box where I put the factory plastic grips and I would have seen them if they fell out on my desk when I changed the grips.  A close look at the screw looks like the screws are so short that there is not enough length on the screws for an o-ring on them when holding the grips.  Is it possible that they were not on mine from the factory?

For those of you who have seen them, are they actual tiny rubber o-rings or metal washers?.

Dutch,
I just got an order from Numrich, and the O-rings fit the screws.  but they
are so small.   I shot both Blackie and smokey last weekend, and the screws on
the left side of the pistols were really loose.  In fact, I lost one off Blackie.
I think that the upward kick when we fire causes the screws on the left side
of the grip to loosen when the gun recoils upward.
The upward recoil would have a tendency on the right side to tighten
them.   Just my opinion.
Maybe if the left side screws were left hand threads?

Closest o-ring I could find that should work is 4.5mm x 2.5mm x 1mm. I ordered 100 for less than $5 and of course they come from China. I wouldn't dare use them on any of my engines but I think they'll be more than adequate for keeping a grip screw tight. I'll let you guys know how they work when they get here, probably in 3 to 4 weeks :'(

 I haven't taken mine off yet; wouldn't a common split-ring washer work?

My thoughts, too.
