So im new to this forum because i have issues with my r51. i love the look and feel of my pistol, an i would love to rely on it for my everyday carry, but i could never get it to rug a full mag without an issue. my first issue with the gun was that right out of the box it would fire one round. that was it! the gun wouldnt go back into battery and there was zero trigger pull. it had a round in the chamber but would not seat it all the way. i realized the slide wasnt all the way forward and after smacking the rear of the slide i actually was able to get it to seat and fire. i hated the gun and only shot one box through it. i came home, cleaned it, and couple weeks later went out with my r51 again. this time it shot up to the rounds before doing the same thing. along with failure to feed. so after reading some posts, i will try the 124 nato ammo and 147 fmj. if i still have issues i want to send it out. although i need to know if it will cost me anything. i mean like anything at all because at this point the only thing from stopping me with a trade in option is the slick look and feel f my gun.

thank you for all your input, and i hope i can make this a reliable pistol.

As you've seen in other posts, some have modified the magazine followers.  Others have fiddled with the feed lips.  Magazine performance seems to be miss and hit.

Before you send your gun in, you might try either of these hacks, or report your problems to Remington and see if they will send you new mags (or both).

Otherwise, sometimes it just takes time to break in.  I made the mistake of not giving mine a thorough cleaning before taking it to the range for the first time and had a similar experience.  Subsequent cleanings and range sessions have improved the performance to the point where stovepipes or nose dives are very rare.  (I'd say they were gone, but I had one a couple of weeks ago.)

Mike,

If you can't rack a full mag, you need to trim the follower legs down in your magazine. As far as the gun not going back into battery, I would suspect something hanging it up (breech block hanging on round?). I am assuming that when you cleaned it, you field stripped it, instead of locking the slide open and running a patch through it? Make sure you got it back together right. These guns are pretty precise. I had rounds bind up in my mags before I modified them. SCurmudgeon replied while I was writing this and I agree wholeheartedly with him. Try some new mags. And shoot the crap out of it! It just may be needing break in. Good luck!

Mike,

I have never sent mine back, but I will assume that since it would be warranty work, just let them know, and they should send you a shipping label. You may have to carry it back to the gun shop and let them ship it depending on local laws. It should be of no charge to you however.

Both of mine went back for the mag release pin issue and NO CHARGE either for the fix or the shipping.  The sent a special mailing pouch and it did not have to go back to my LGS...straight to me at my office.
