Any ideas?   Don't believe it has to do with any recession.   Remington
customer service rings a bell.
Blackie
So many guns, so little time!

RED HORSE

Their news release are about as informative as their customer service efforts.  Looks to me like something is going on other than soft market.

Since they hired the Taurus exec, maybe Remington intends to compete long term in the budget gun segment of the market. That seems to fit Remington's current handgun product line.

From an article I found:  http://www.guns.com/2017/10/26/remington-appoints-new-ceo/

On top of economic hardships, the company has debts roughly equivalent to its annual revenue, about $1 billion. The company owes bondholders some $800 million in 2019 and $250 million in 2020. Moody's Investment Services downgraded Remington's corporate rating in July, suggesting the company might be at risk of defaulting on loans.

"I look forward to the challenges ahead, while forging a course for the future with innovation and vision," Acitelli said in the company's statement. "We owe it to those that came before us and to those that will follow."

Maybe this explains the sale prices and rebates we saw earlier in the year.  It looks like Remington needs some cash flow.

"Earlier?"  Remington has a "Pre Black Friday" rebate of $100 on pistols.  Along with the current sale price, it brings the RM380 down to around $170, the R51 to around $215, and the RP9 down to around $230.

I may have to sell something but Daddy wants a new gun!  ;)

AND...

Remington is showing the Smoke/Silver version of the R51 on their website again.

(It was never completely gone off their website if you had the link cached, but if you tried to search for it from the Remington homepage, it didn't come up.)

R51 Silver/Smoke is listed with an MSRP of $12 more than the all black.  Maybe stores will be stocking them again.

ALSO...

With prices and rebates like those, I expect there will be plenty of new members on this site.   ;)

So, couldnt pass it up!
Went out and bought two today.
'Nother R51 and a RM380.

Sale priced at Cabelas at $350 and $250 esentialy.
Brings 'em down to  $250 and $150!

Got the laser on the R51, for $150, where anywhere else, they start at $165 plus.

Wanted Smoke, but just had to settle for black.
Might be a blessing, not so noticable to the rest of thehousehold, if you get my drift.
