Finally got time to put some rounds down range with my R-51.

I ran two brands. Fiocchi and Aguila. Both 115 grs.

I wanted to function test with range ammo before I went for the +p defense ammo. I had already heard the R-51 prefers hotter loads. So far, I tend to agree. Here is my results from my limited test so far...

Started with the Fiocchi as I have had good luck with it in my 1911s, 45, and VP9, 9mm.

Holy crap storm!!!  :-\  Cratered primers, dirty varnish on every fired casing. No bulged cases though.

Moved on to fire 3 mags of the Aguila.

Seemed much snappier. Primers looked great. Casings looked great.

Accuracy, not really testing for it but, seemed great. Without trying hard it put the lead in the kill zone on almost every trigger pull. The flyers were my fault, new gun syndrome.

So, in summary, I need more, hotter ammo and more time to put a lot more rounds down range. So far... So good.

Zurn,
I am using Ruger ARX in my R51, it is Ruger's new self defense ammo, and it is +P. So far So good. It goes BANG! every time. I have been asking if anybody has
tried this ammo, so far no answers.
Joe
So many guns, so little time!

I saw the Ruger ARX the other day. May have to give it a  shot. I picked up a box of Hornady 124 gr XTP. When work stops kicking me in the butt I will test it out. May have to check out the ARX as well.

Zurn,
Let us know. I have also tried Ruger ARX in my LC9s, LCP and Ruger SR1911, all go bang every time. Good carry ammo.

I don't think I will carry with anything but ARX!
It comes in +P or standard and is only 65 grains.

As to heavy loads, I have been using a lot of 85, 90, 95 and 100 grain loads and like them at least as good as the 115.
What I really don't like, and see absolutely no use for, is anything over 124 gr.

Zurn,
Sounds like you have got it down to a science.  Once I got my R51 running well,  I only carry Ruger ARX 9MM in it, which is +p.
Training ammo,  what ever is on sale.  The one problem I never had was ammo compatibility.  My problems revolved around the
Magazines.

I use Ruger ARX ammo as my carry in both my R51 and Sig P238. It works great in both pistols with nary a bobble in either and is more accurate than any of my other ammo, although I don't shoot a lot of it 'cause it's kinda pricey and I handload. If you shoot paper, be prepared for some funny-looking holes, though! It makes little triangles instead of circles...

Chokejug

Ha!
Never thought of that!
But those little groves sure would tend to do that.

Steel plate or right now, waste watermellons, and those ARX blow up water mellons at least as good as any HP round.
