I completely agree, Swschu.
I like to think that even if Remington discontinues production, they can always start producing the R51 again at a later date.  I’m thinking that a lot will depend on Remington’s financial health over the next few years.  At Shot show this year, it seemed like Remington is focusing on their hunting rifles and shotguns rather than self defense products. I can certainly understand that strategy.  The hunting market is Remington’s identity and if they lose that, then Remington as we know it will cease to exist.

Gosh, I don't think Rem will ever resurrect this pistol. They took such a bath on it already, and the demand is no doubt down due to bad press earlier; already newer items are entering the market, like the new Mossberg carry pistol. Just my opinion; I think Rem is going to "go forward" and leave the R51 behind.

I will soon have the name and either mailing address, email address or both of who we can write to about getting them to not discontinue the R-51.  We need a huge effort. I have seen some people on here make comments about how to make it better. I would like to kick off this campaign to get them to maybe make a few changes and re-introduce the pistol.  I really believe that Remington had something with this pistol.  We need to get support from some of the YouTube Gun Community. I really want them to continue this pistol. I think the concept of the fixed barrel and low bore axis is great especially for newer shooters.  Just my thoughts. Is there anyone in this community that feels like I do?

Hello, GLBourbon and all; I realize the NY Times is basically anti-gun, but everyone needs to read the article in the 5/5/19 issue of the NY Times Magazine entitled "Gun Money" by Jesse Baron. The financial strains inflicted upon the company by their corporate owners, who also own several other gun companies, is surprising. The reality behind advertising images, and our sometimes naïve impressions of companies' management is an eye-opener. There's simply no way they are going to bring back a problematic product. Thanks, all, for reading.

I sent Remington an email a few weeks ago expressing support for further development of the R51.  I received a prompt reply and the representative said that he liked the R51 for the same reasons but was unsure whether production would be continued or not.

I sent an email to info@remington.com and also sent one to Mike Keeney who is Director of  Handgun Development.   At least he was at one time and I didn't get an invalid email auto response.  I also asked them to continue with the development of this pistol. They should also look at this Pedersen design in some of their other pistols, like the RP9 or RP45.  It is a design no one else has and they own it.  The could have some extremely accurate pistols.  I would also look at making their pistols, some of the models with metal (aluminum) frames. Using this Pedersen design, if they can work out the kinks with the R-51, they would have something that sets them apart from all the other pistol makers. Just my thoughts.

I admire people who actually write the companies. For every person who contacts a corporation, there's a thousand who don't care to write or call. Congratulations!

I have seen the postings in this thread talking about the R51 being discontinued and that it isn't on Remington's website any longer. I don't know if Remington has really discontinued production permanently or not.  I will say that I went to their website this morning and the firearm is still available for sale. They want more than $250 for it and that seems reasonable to me as it is probably a relatively modestly produced firearm. They asking about what Ruger is asking for an LCR (Approximately$450).  I hope they do continue to produce the R51 as I am hoping to purchase one in the near future.

My *GUESS* is its gone and not coming back. There are several retailers blowing them out at around $200 or a bit more. I paid $199 for mine. I don't think they'd be selling them at Hi-Point prices unless they indeed have been discontinued. *shrug*

Zorba,  you are probably correct.  I chatted with someone off of their website who said that production has been discontinued for this year.  So I asked them how accurate the statement of them not producing them any more this year due to inventory being good and the person checked their inventory but did not confirm my statement.  When I asked them about being concerned about service and parts, that person told me that parts and service would be available for a while.  That does indeed sound like the pistol is finished.  That is a pity as it is a very attractive design.

I wish they were coming back.....but this should be a lesson forevermore on why to never release a product unless it is ready for prime time.
