Thanks.  That really cleared some issues up for me.  Not being mechanically trained (though inclined to tinker), it was in terms I could understand.

And then, and only then, very carefully try to figure out just what might be causing that particular problem.

Modifying just on account someone else had a problem with theirs is asking for worse problems.

It appears that there is any given number of DIFFERENT problems and just modifying helter skelter may do more damage than good.

I surely hope you had particular reasons to make the said alterations.

I didn't do all the modifications at once.  Trimming the follower has worked for lot of people both in and outside this forum.  When I still couldn't get the 7th round in, I resorted to trimming the spring. 

The front lip bend was to alleviate the nosedive I got with all the mags.  They are working better when I'm using snap caps. 

I don't get to the range very often, so I do the best I can in the workshop trying to get everything working for my trips to the range, then try again after the range.  These weren't helter skelter changes. 

Looking forward to the range report, too.  I've modded my magazines as described in these posts, beveling follower legs, trimmed a couple of springs a little to get the 7th round in, and straightened the lip on the front of the mag.  Now if I can just get some range time, too!

Where can I get new springs that fit?  Are they standard single stack springs?  Is there such a thing?  I trimmed one of mine to alleviate the tension on the first round feeding and may have overdone it.  Afraid 7th round may not have enough to reliably feed, now.

Thanks, R51Fan.  I have field stripped it and was careful with the slide lock spring.  When it turned into a single shot, is was locking up on every round from that unmodified magazine. 

So bending the lip affects the nosedives and trimming the follower is just for the difficulty loading the last round?  I cut the spring thinking the spring was powerful enough that it caused the top round to jam so hard against the slide, making it difficult to rack.  I guess that's similar to others just leaving the magazine fully loaded.  I'm afraid it may affect the final round,though, and not be strong enough to push it high enough to feed.  Not sure, though.

I've been reading the forum for a couple of weeks, looking at ways to fix my magazines, too.  Finally joined so I can participate. 

I bought the R51 for the looks and rebate, love the intuitive aiming and like the feel.  I like that my 11 year old daughter has no trouble racking the slide when dry firing.  But, I tried out my magazines with snap caps and noticed the failures to feed (is that FTF's or F'sTF?).  When I called Remington and said the magic words (FTF) I got two new ones in the mail.  No packaging, just 2 magazines in an envelope.  Kind of weird.

I tried different modifications on the different magazines to see which worked and short answer is none worked flawlessly. 
On one I shortened the spring one loop to get the 7th round in.
Another I shortened the follower legs 1/8".
Another I bent the lip up on the front.
The fourth I didn't change at all.

The fourth one had FTF with every round, turning the R51 into a single shot piece, had to be racked every round.
The others varied with nose dives on the first round, sometimes the last round FTF, and one stove piped live round. 

Is there a combination of fixes I should try?  I only get to the range maybe once/month, so it's hard to tweak, then shoot, then tweak some more.  I've also read about tapering the follower legs.  Haven't tried that, just shortened one follower. 

Did I screw up the magazine when I cut the spring (I'd read that somewhere, too).  Can I get a replacement spring and start over?

A sticky with magazine options would be helpful, or maybe just some feedback. 

I contacted Remington again, and they want me to send the R51 in, but I'm hesitant to do that.  Mostly because it seems like a hassle and I don't think they'll fix anything.

Any suggestions?  My R51 has a Charlotte SN. 

Thanks.  I'll be changing the springs on the RM380 hopefully to improve the trigger pull (it's very long and difficult).  Haven't shot the RP9. 

Finally joined and posting on this forum after lurking for a bit.  Bought an R51 before Thanksgiving before the rebate expired (then an RM380 and RP9 to get even more rebates).   

Love the look and feel of the R51.  Love the intuitive aiming.  Just working on the magazines now.  Don't get much range time, but using snap caps and laser cartridge as much as I can.
