I've disassembled and reassembled mine several times, but the last time I had the same problem. The slide locked up during assembly and it wouldn't move either way.  Wife called me for dinner so I went and ate and came back in an hour and it went right together.  Strange.

I too had that problem with my R51. Except I could not get the slide back on the frame. It does not tell you to in the video, but you have to pull the barrel forward just as in
disassembling the pistol. Once I started doing this, I have no problem. Except for that dang ol' way too stiff action spring. What happened to racking the slide with one
finger?  :=}

Ya gotta compare this to other pistols of the same size which seem to be .380ACP blowbacks which are extremely difficult to rack,  The R51 is a baby compared to a Beretta 84 or 85 which requires many folks to manually cock the hammer first.

Sling shot grip is very ineffective.

I compared the R51 to my P38 and CZ82. It takes more effort to rack the R51 than either of the other two. All are blowbacks.

Some idiots just cannot stand it when people are having a great time on a website. Probably
over in India or Nigeria. Glad they are gone Robert. You did good.

It is mentioned that some R51s are stamped with "Charlotte", aren't they all?  Mine too is stamped with the same, what other location is stamped on the new R51s?  Thanks, and there is no way mine will chamber a round with one finger either.
I was under the impression these GEN 2 guns are all made in Huntsville,Al, but mine is a SN 0014___ and says Charlotte,NC on it. And my slide can be pulled back some with one finger but not more than halfway.

Thanks for the info, I did not know that.  Does anyone have a R51 with the Huntsville stamp?

My R51 is also a Charlotte gun. And I cannot rack the slide with one finger. The spring is too strong I believe.

General Discussion / Re: Reassembly after field strip
September 17, 2016, 09:59:07 AM
I just field stripped my R51 after a range trip, and the guide rails on the frame will not slide under
the breech block. After three hours of cussin' and swearin' I called Remington support and talked
to Justin Emerson. He had me email him photos of what was happening, and called me back,
gave me a case number and is mailing me the package to return the pistol to the shop.
No muss no fuss.

Gun related links / Breakdown and clean the R51

Wow, after a great morning at the range with my gen 2 R51, (everything went bang and ejected).
I took it apart to clean it. Man, that slide spring is tough for an old  man's hands.
Guess what, the gun would  not go back together. I called Remington, talked to Justin Emerson
and he said send photos. I did, got a reply on the phone about an hour later. He is sending me
a shipping package with label for UPS. That was quick. Don't know what all the fuss is about
service.
Anyway, while I was at the range, I shot Remington white box, WInchester USA Forged
with the iron casings, and Ruger ARX Polycase. All went bang.  Will get back with any thing
I find out from Remington.

R51 General Discussion / Replacement pistol for R51

For those of you who are concerned about swapping your first issue R51 For an R1 1911,
I have the Original R1 enhanced and it is a shooter. My Grandson is presently trying
to wear it out and having no luck. He also carries it on the job.

My slide action pull is easy as long as there is not a loaded mag in the gun.  If there is a full 7 rounds in the mag, it can be difficult to chamber the first round.
It sounds a little like the Hesitation Block is dragging against the magazine or top round.  If I may offer two suggestions:

First, before inserting a magazine, rack the slide.  Because the R51 is a Single Action Only, Hammer Fired pistol, the slide must cock back the hammer.  If the hammer is forward, uncocked, then the user must work against the force of both the Recoil Spring and the Hammer Spring.  If your block is dragging against the top of the mag/top-round then this will eliminate one more thing (the Hammer Spring) to manually work against.  I also teach this for SAO Hammer Fired guns with an exposed hammer.  Thumb-cock the hammer before racking a round into the chamber.  Just makes it a tad easier.

Second, lock the slide back before inserting a magazine, then do an over-hand rack release of the slide lock.  This will keep the slide from dragging against the top of the mag/top-round.

Peace favor your sword,
Kirk

I am with you, every semi auto I have ever racked went easier with the hammer back, just keep your finger off the trigger.  :={

Chuck S, You are right. I have an RIA Baby Rock 1911 in .380. My 1911s are easier to rack. I use the table on the range to tack the Rock. (Old Fart)

After 5-6 failed attempts to register online like I did with the 1st gen R51 and R1, I gave Remington a call. The guy said " Yea that part is not working right now."

A notice on their webpage would sure be helpful!

I sent my 2nd gen R51 back to the factory on Friday. It was basically a single shot pistol.
Lincen,
Sorry you had that problem, but we all  need all of the input we can get. A friend of mine went out with some friends and
he says they fired about 1000 rounds and they went bang, eject. I will pick mine up tomorrow, and see what it does.
Hopefully it is a run of the mill gun that goes BANG! every time and the brass flies over my shoulder. :=]

Anybody had any luck registering their R51 ONLINE? - The owner's manual and their Website claim it can be done online, but when I go to the link, All I get is the option to Print out a PDF warranty card to mail in, it even says right above the "You can now register On-line" -- What am I missing?

I've sent (2) messages to them (Using their Contact Us link.) since I got my 51 back on the 15th of this month, No response.

I'm just wondering if I'm missing something, I'm running Win10, maybe I'll try mu older PC to see if that works.

Thanks.
TJB

TJB63, Know what you mean. Rem is slow on the uptake. I sent them an email a week ago about the TFB hash job they did on the R51, still waiting for a reply.

Really Jake? The R51 is concealable, the only people who see it is us who carry.
But I can see what you are saying. You should see some of the grips on my
1911s!

Good morning!  I bought my R51 gen2 just a couple of days before The Firearm Blog's scathing review was released on YouTube.  It really had me worried that I had made a bad decision.  I've since taken my R51 to the range twice, and have put a total of about 185 rounds through it.

On the first range trip, I put around 85 rounds through it.  It shoots as expected, and I was fairly pleased.  The webbing of my hand does feel a little sting, and turns a bit red, after more than a few rounds, and I think that it's due to a combination of the lower bore axis than I'm used to, and possibly the sorta sharp edges around the top of the grip safety.  Either way, not something I'm concerned with.

I also had one occasion where I went to pull the trigger and nothing happened.  At the time, I thought it might not have gone completely into battery.  I dropped the magazine and re-inserted it and I was able to fire.  I experienced no other issues.

On my second range trip, I put 100 rounds through it.  There were two occasions where I went to squeeze the trigger and it didn't fire.  Turns out that while I was able to feel the slight trigger reset most of the time, I missed it these two times.  I suspect that this is what happened on my first range visit as well.

Here's the result from the second half of that range visit.  50 rounds at 25 feet, slow fire:

Conclusion:  ~185 rounds, no malfunctions, fits great in the hand, and shoots well
f

I just talked to a friend of mine over in College Station, Texas, and he and his buddies took  his R51 out for a day of shooting. They put a 1000 rounds through it and it went BANG! every time.
No ejection problems, no FTF, no nothing. Just fun! My kiinda gun.
