All a Tommy gun would do for you is use up .45 ACP ammo.
Just think how much you save for that next pistol by not shooting
up all that .45 ACP ammo.

R51fan,
Don't clip the springs, unless you really feel you need to.
I only clipped one spring on one mag, and couldn't tell the difference.
Took a little off the follower legs and the mag works fine now.

brakes ,shocks, sway-bar links, (one mount point bent required BFH to re align) and fix the caliper mounting brackets that caused the premature failure of the brake pads in the first place. much of the hardware was siezed due to the NY DOT salting the crap out of the roads in the winter and not washing the underside of the car.
As to the R51, i loaded the 4 newer mags and fired them off yesterday, used federal Premium FMJ 115 gr practice ammo. no issues aside from me needing aim practice. loaded 7 rounds in each, and was able to depress the stack another 1/16 to 1/8 inch. stiff though. i figure the springs were maxed out. going to pick up another big box of ammo so i can do long term testing including the 2 gen1 mags i have. they are a bear to put 7 rounds in and dont have any free play available.i dont want to mod anything till i have good data. other than the grip is a little narrow, i love it. working on plans for a steel target rig that can be set up or torn down in a few minutes and is light enough to transport anywhere. target vehicle size is a Subaru Forester.

Dryrot,
You need to seriously investigate the modification of shortening the follower legs.  It has worked for the rest of us.
As for grips, I put Keefer grips on both my R51s and the 1/4 inches in width make the guns comfortable for my
old outsized hands.

Todd,
Thanks for the tip on the brushes.  I can use that on the lubrication of the
slides and the frame.

R51 Fan.

When you straightened the tab, didn't the magazine follower pop out the top of the magazine when empty?

David,
The lips on the mag hold the follower in.  I have modified several of my mags, VEEERY carefully,
and if it does not work, I return to the factory set.  Except for shortening the legs on the
follower.   One mag, I had to shave the top of the follower down so it is flat on top.
I have two 2016 mags, 5 2017 mags (as far as I know, that was when I got them) and 1 2018 mag.
the first 7 drove  me crazy, but the 2018 mag runs like a chevy!  (no mods))
I had one mag that absolutely would not run unless I bent the nose tab straight.
Other wise I could not even unload the mag by thumb!
Last two times I went to the range, I ran each mag in each of my R51s with no problem.
Including alternating different brand ammo in the same mag.  They all worked.

One question I do have for owners who have put at least 1000 rounds plus through theirs is this. Have you noticed any excessive or abnormal wear on the frame? Just curious to see how well it is holding up. I realize there have been some concerns about using a steel upper on an aluminum lower from previous comments.

Todd,
Many guns have steel uppers and aluminium lowers.  We will have to wait and see.

Back in 2016 there was a young lady who held a R51 by the slide amd
racked it with one finger.  Fake news????

Which Loctite did you use?

I used the 271 RED.  After a couple of days, I will see how tight the screws are.

I made a mess when I first tried to apply Locktite on the  grip screw bushings on
Blackie and Smokey.
I dripped the Locktite on the hole in the bushings and it ran through to the
Mag well.  I figured out a solution.  I rolled up a couple of Kleenex in the shape
of a magazine, shoved it in the magwell and then dripped the locktite in the
bushing.  Worked like a champ!  I screwed the screws in the grip holes,
and then pulled the Kleenex back out.  The excess Locktite was absorbed
by the Kleenex.  No muss no fuss.  Now I will see if the Locktite holds  the
screws.
