R51 General Discussion / Power ball Ammo
January 20, 2017, 07:14:33 PM
Guys/gals,
Took the Power ball ammo out today and tried in in my R51.  Went BANG! every time.
I was concerned because it is +P but only 100gr ammo.  But then again MV is 1475 fps.
I would trust it in the winter time against heavy clothing, but in the summer,  definitely JHP.
It is expensive.

R51 General Discussion / Less problems
January 13, 2017, 02:59:15 PM
I have noticed over the holidays, that the problem comments with the R51 seem to have abated.
Is this due to lack of action over Xmas and New Years, (and Boxing day for the Blokes),
or are problems being resolved?
My only problem left is field stripping the weapon.  Ain't getting any younger, and these
old hands are no match for the Action Spring.  But, I  can still handle the other semis. (1911s, etc.)
The Rugers, LCP, LC380, LC9 and LC9s no problem and Yugo Tokarevs, my secret loves.
(Thunder on the range)
I guess I will just have to see how long the R51 shoots dirty!
Kirk, I never heard back from Remington on the question about the magazines.

This is above my pay grade.  Any help anybody?

R51 General Discussion / Extractor Spring???
December 24, 2016, 11:18:11 AM
Has anybody else noticed the little green piece of rubber under rear of the Extractor
on the breech block of  the R51?   Remove the Magazine  shine a light in the
magazine slot and look at the bottom of the breech block.  You will see a little
green object.
Believe it or not, it is the elastomeric  extractor spring!!!
I have never owned or seen a firearm that uses rubber for a critical spring.
I wonder how long this will last?  Mine is already starting to ooze out!
Is it something that the oil and Hoppe's will deteriorate?
Going to send an email to Remington and see if they will discuss it.
After all the problems we at R51pistol.com have had, and mostly fixed on our own,
now a cheap piece of rubber is behind one of the
most crucial parts of the firearm?

BTW, just sent a query to Remington, let's see what they say.

General Discussion / Grip screw washers
December 22, 2016, 10:08:12 AM
I have seen a couple of posts about wood grips for the R51.
Be warned! When you take the screws out that hold the grips in, be advised
that there is a rubber grommet under the screw head, and it is very fragile.
I do not know the purpose of these grommets unless it is to prevent the
screws coming loose while shooting. I screwed up one of my grommets
while making wood grips, put the screw back in without a grommet and
and it appears to make no difference in holding power. It also does
not interfere with the Magazine at all. Will post a photo of the grips
if I ever finish them. They will have to be laminate type grips if I
want a thicker grip.

Gun related links / Breakdown and clean the R51
September 16, 2016, 04:40:09 PM
Wow, after a great morning at the range with my gen 2 R51, (everything went bang and ejected).
I took it apart to clean it. Man, that slide spring is tough for an old  man's hands.
Guess what, the gun would  not go back together. I called Remington, talked to Justin Emerson
and he said send photos. I did, got a reply on the phone about an hour later. He is sending me
a shipping package with label for UPS. That was quick. Don't know what all the fuss is about
service.
Anyway, while I was at the range, I shot Remington white box, WInchester USA Forged
with the iron casings, and Ruger ARX Polycase. All went bang.  Will get back with any thing
I find out from Remington.

R51 General Discussion / Replacement pistol for R51
September 16, 2016, 10:01:26 AM
For those of you who are concerned about swapping your first issue R51 For an R1 1911,
I have the Original R1 enhanced and it is a shooter. My Grandson is presently trying
to wear it out and having no luck. He also carries it on the job.

Introductions section / Just logged in

I just bought my R51, have not picked it up yet from Champion Firearms in College Station,
Texas.
I read the firearm blog and I really wonder if that guy has an agenda. I have seen other reviews
and the R51 ran great.
