General Discussion / Re: serial numbers again for R51G2 Smoke
« on: December 20, 2020, 06:02:56 AM »
I haven't seen a photo of yours but here is one that has a similar serial number with a strange colored frame.  Could be the lighting.  The box for this one says that it is a 96430 all black model.

Gman, that is very interesting that your smoke model has the serial number H014XXXR51.  Supposedly there were about 65,000 total units produced.  It is hard to get information from Remington on the production because of the recall and other litigations.  The list that I have of known serial numbers is over 200 owners long, but a good sampling from Prototypes, NC Gen 1s, NC Gen 2s, Huntsville Gen 2s, and Huntsville Smoke models.  I haven't tried calling customer service since the sell off, so I don't know if it is an option anymore, but you used to be able to call and they would tell you the production month and year of your R51.  Your serial number would suggest a spring 2017 production.  Maybe your lower frame was held over until the fall of 2017 when smokes were sold.  Or it could be an early test design that was proposed before the actual run happened.  That would be very cool, the prototype smoke model!

I have never seen a lower frame marked "HSV", but ALL smokes are from Huntsville.  I would be very interested in your co-worker's gun digest book pages.  You should post the scans for all to see.

Just curious about your purchase, did it come in the original Remington box?  Was the box marked with material #96234?

Welcome to the forum.  There is not much new information or topics on this pistol.  But let us know what you think and if you have anything to share about the R51.  We all love it here and there are many topics to search on this forum.

Remington R51 Facts and Specs / Re: A Brief History of the R51

Nothing official other than replies from Remington customer service.  But then again, Remington was never forthcoming on the R51 since the beginning.

Received a reply from Remington, no more R-51 production.

I'm guessing there was a glut of r51's and r51 accessories lying around earlier this year.  This current environment has probably allowed retailers to finally move these excess guns.  I was hoping there would be a final clearance of r51's at firesale prices, but I'm guessing that isn't going to happen.  They will be able to sell the remaining guns, and the new owners will probably announce it's discontinuation early next year.  I wonder if r51's are currently in production?

Remington discontinued the R51 in 2018 and all of the fire sales have already happened.  Accessories were always pretty limited and are mostly gone.  You can find some things here and there online.

Assuming you are right handed?

You mean like the S&W M&P Shield .40 or .45 which are both smaller than the R51?  Still, wishful thinking...

Welcome!  There is a lot of good information in this forum to get you going.  Aftermarket accessories are getting pretty slim since they quit making the gun in 2018.

The sale of Remington Outdoors has been approved by a bankruptcy court judge on September 29, 2020.  Remington will be broken up into 7 different entities:

o   Vista Outdoor Inc. (Federal Ammo, Bushnel) to purchase majority of assets- ammunition, accessories, brand and trademarks
o   Sturm Ruger & Co. Inc. to purchase Marlin firearms business
o   Roundhill Group LLC (Real Estate Investors) to purchase the non-Marlin firearms business including Ilion, NY plant and museum
o   Sierra Bullets LLC to purchase Barnes ammunition business
o   JJE Capital Holdings LLC (Palmetto State Armory) to purchase DPMS, H&R, Stormlake, AAC, and Parker brands
o   Franklin Armory Holdings LLC to purchase Bushmaster brand and related assets
o   Sportsman's Warehouse Inc. to purchase TAPCO brands

So it is possible that Roundhill could bring back the Gen3 R51 and perhaps even make the .40 and .45 versions once promised.  Here's to wishful thinking...

Very interesting.  I'll have to try different head positions next time I'm at the range, even though I wear my bifocals when shooting.

My wife took the smokey to the range.  She ran 50 rounds through it with no problems.  I also shot another 50 through it with no problems.  It does seem to shoot  low and to the left.  The laser guard is not sighted in so that will help on accuracy.  The rear sight can be adjusted for windage but not elevation.  May look at machining the front sight so the top is lower.
