Yes, I'm hoping that Remington is not considering dropping this line.  Even the reduction in price for the magazines on their website would seem to indicate that they are trying to reduce / remove inventory, and some of the deals for the pistols from wholesalers would seem to indicate the same thing.  This has quickly become one of my favorite pistols.  I would like to see Remington expand this line to other calibers rather than drop it.  We'll see.

That's a possibility.  It may also be that there design tolerances of the frame were on the "tight" side, and they compensated by modifying the the magazine rather than the more expensive frame.  But, I like your idea better and hope that they do come out with a 45 version... that would be really nice!!

R51 General Discussion / Re: New R51 at the range

"For my own part, my shots tend to fall low and to the left - which, experienced shooters tell me, means that I'm anticipating the gun's recoil, and am pushing on the gun to compensate as I'm firing."  First time I have heard this.  From what I have been taught, most people with a "new" pistol, that they are not accustomed to, do this.  I have taught NRA Basic pistol classes (very basic!) and the "NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting" has some neat diagrams showing grouping errors due to improper trigger technique and due to common grip errors.  It is a worthwhile manual to have in your shooting library.

Low and to the left can mean that you are putting the tip of the finger on the trigger and pushing the gun to the left (right hand hold assumed) and squeezing the grip with the middle, ring and pinky, the pinky being the culprit for pulling the barrel down.  Generally, you want to have the trigger's edge at the first crease down from the tip, and you would only squeeze the grip with the middle and ring fingers.

If you look at the palm of your hand, you will see that the line at the base of the middle and ring fingers is fairly straight and the base of the pinky makes an angle to the base of the middle and ring fingers.  Squeezing with the pinky will pull the barrel in a downward motion.  I use the "tea totaler's" grip with my pinky sticking out.

Of course there are many aspects to all this, how the gun fits your hand, the size of the gun, etc. and pocket pistols and compacts tend to be more suitable for people with smaller hands, so we adjust accordingly.

I'm starting to get some range time with my R51 and hopefully will be able to get some good groupings.  My first impression from shooting this pistol is that it is very accurate and the sights seem accurate.  My first magazine was low and to the left, but subsequent shots were at point of aim.  Well, I'll just have to "waste" more ammo and keep on practicing.  :)

I would be interested in 2 of them.  I'm thinking the $35-$40 range each??  Would they be made from aluminum or steel?

David, I don't recall other mags being designed that way.  I don't think it is just to stop the follower, as the follower will, and does, also stop where the feed lips bend in.  If you place the magazine in the pistol with the slide pulled back, you will see that the front of the magazine can "bump" a round back to put it back from the barrel feed ramp.  If that wasn't there, the round could be forward enough to catch on the ramp.

I've read somewhere on this forum, I believe, that some people take pliers and straighten that out.  I personally wouldn't do that, but I'm not having any feed problems with my pistol.

I was just on the Remington website looking for magazines for the R51 (https://www.remington.com/shop/Magazines/c/HP-Magazines).  They are listed at $29.95 each.  When you click on the magazine, it takes you to the detailed page and the price is $14.99 each - half price!  Thought you might like to know.  :)

Hello from VA.  I'm a "mostly" retired automation engineer and a gunsmith who recently acquired, and fell in love with, an R51 pistol.  They became available through a wholesaler, so I picked one up, as I was very interested in the Petersen design and wanted to handle one and get familiar with an actual physical piece.  I wasn't in anyway disappointed in the R51, and in fact, after pumping several magazines of ammo through it, I ordered a second one, which will probably become a safe queen.  While browsing this forum, I have already picked up some valuable info about the R51, and hopefully, as I get more familiar with its internal workings, I may be able to contribute to this forum.
Most of my work to this point involved Sigs, 1911's, Browning HP's, S&W revolvers and various other handguns, so feel free to ask any questions you might have; if I can answer them, I will, and if I can't, I will tell you so, and then hunt for an answer for you through some of my contacts.  Well, I'm looking forward to some fun with the R51 and this forum.  Be well and be vigilant and safe.  :)
