I also have noticed how dirty these R51s shoot.  I would be careful about
what you use on that little plastic retractor spring though.  Not sure how
brake fluid will affect that little ball.
I use Hoppe's #9 and then Hoppe's oil.  There a couple of places on the
Breech Block that really get caked up with soot.   Had to scrape it off with
a small screwdriver blade!.
Have you had a problem with grip screws coming loose?  I do not have
O-rings on Blackie and have less of a problem with it, Smokey has O-rings
and is worse about coming loose.  I guess I will have to get some of that
high strength Loc-Tite for both of them.  Not like I will be taking the grips
off,  unless, Mr Keefer brings out another super duper set of grips!

I think I mentioned this before, but my favourite LGS is in Bryan, Texas.
"Champion Firearms".   When I went in to buy an R51 in '14,  one of the
guys said "that is a POS" !  I did not buy it, but when the 1916 came out,
I jumped on it.  I wanted to buy it from Champion, but they told me that
they had dropped Remington pistols because of their pricing policy.
They still sell Rem Rifles, but no Pistols.

I took apart Smokey today, and checked the Breech block and firing pin.
Without taking the firing pin out of the pistol, it felt good, no glitches, no
snags etc.  If it happens attain, I will take the pin out and check it.
I use Blackie for back up carry, and Smokey resides under my pillow.
Excuse me but I have to go and finish my Beam  on the rocks.  :<)

Went to the range today (finally). Between the cold and these old bones,
I finally made it to the range.   All 8 mags functioned perfectly,  I used all the junk
9MM amm I had in my dope bag.  Only two misteps.  One ARX cartridge took a
good dent in the primer but did not fire, second try it fired.  And, 1 Winchester
white box cartridge Pulled trigger, no hit on primer.   Second try fired.
Both happened with Smokey.   I will clean it thoroughly and try it again.
Blackie worked flawlessly. I ran all 8 mags through both guns and was pleased
with the results.  Total of 150 rounds.

I have one mag #1 That is the oldest, it has the divot. #8 my newest that
Big Green sent me does not have the divot.  Looks to me like that the
earlier plastic followers were formed from a faulty Mould.

Freedom Group,
Another in a long line of "hostile takeover" Companies.

I have gotten 3 mags from Big Green, and they were all wrapped in
bubble wrap.
All three reacted differently when I tried them in my two R51s.

I think the Freedom Group is just like any other "Hostile Take Over Company",
Buy a company drain it dry and sell it to the highest bidder.
And the government will not do a damn thing about it!!

I think most of the guys selling gun in the big box stores have never fired a
gun in their life.  I have never gone into a big box store and seen any
enthusiastic sales men.   While you look at the gun they just look around
like "Who Cares"!

Welcome to the forum,  if you have a specific problem with the R51,
let us know and you will be inundated with fixes.
Did you get your grips from Keefer?
Welcome from Texas,

R51 General Discussion / Re: Fully dedicated holsters; waiting for one!
« on: February 04, 2018, 07:06:55 AM »
Have you thought of making your own holster?  I made one, and it is comfortable,
holds the pistol, and is concealable.   It is OWB.  In the summer, I wear a short
sleeved shirt one or two sizes to large, and it covers the pistol, if left untucked.
I am 83 and who is gonna suspect that I am carrying?
I canot post a photo, (above my paygrade), but it you PM me with your email addy, I will send you a photo if you are interested.

I haven't taken mine off yet; wouldn't a common split-ring washer work?

I am not sure if a lock washer isn't too thick on that short screw.  But if you could find
a longer screw, that would work.  The thickness of my new grips from Keefer
will accommodate a longer screw.
