My Huntsville, that had the wayward mag release pin, came back and was taken to the range today.   84 round from 4 different mags.  Zero issues and the pin stayed put.  The pistol has had 1751 or more rounds through it, with 13 FTF..,, most 9 of 13 from Mag 1 early on.   Gettin' better all the time!!

Well....the same problem that I had on my Huntsville pistol has raised it ugly head on my Charlotte pistol yesterday.  I have no more than 500 rounds on it and whaaa...laaaa.  The mag release pin was coming out of the right side.    I love this pistol but what next????

I have put on 1229 rounds on my Huntsville.    This is the breakdown.

I have 4 mags of which #1  and #2 were modified with shorter follower legs early on.

Mag 1 was a bugger.....with plenty of FTFs before the mod.

Only 70 rounds have been fired with mags 3 & 4, total

Of the 1229 rounds, 96% were 115gr commercial reloads.  The rest were 124gr hp and 147 silver tips.

I cleaned the weapon after every trip to the range.

I can field strip and reassemble this unit in less than 1 minute total...(if the barrel lines up the first time!!!!!!)

Overall FTF rate.....................0.9%

FTF rate after Mag 1 was modified................0.33%

The frame shows normal wear.   However my mag release pin is not doing what it should.

Otherwise I love this pistol.....and again I call BS on all the crap that came before.

Summary....THE MAGS SUCK!

Happy New Year Y'all.

After shooting at the range today I noticed that the Huntsville pistol with about 838 rounds on it had the mag release pin drifting out on the right side, about 3/16 of an inch.   I was able to reseat it but has anyone else had that issue??

Well not it is starting to get a bit boring!!!   And gladly so.

All ammo is Winchester White Box 115 gr...unless otherwise specified.

Pistol #1..   Huntsville

2 Mags, for a total of 21 reloads at 7 rounds each (147 rounds total)

ZERO issues..

7 rounds 115 gr silver tip HP .......perfect.      7 rounds Super Vel (old +P) .  shorter OAL....1 FTF first rnd from slide back. Rerack= 7 perfect.

Pistol #2 :     Charlotte

2 Mags for a total of 10 reloads at 7 rounds each.  (70 rounds total)

Perfect EXCEPT Mag 3, 5th reload, 5th rnd....RAPID FIRE...went limp and felt it....FTF...bummer.

Total rounds on this piece = 214.

Both pieces feed the first round w/ no problem using the hand rack method of loading.   Charlotte is a little stiffer but getting there.

I thinks that this issue is closed.  What do you think???

Merry Christmas.

Picked up my new R51 last evening.  It is a Charlotte NC pistol.   Once home I field stripped 6 times, cleaned and oiled it for today.

I all cases, I am shooting 115 gr FMJ commercial relaods.

Results:  Huntsville AL Pistol.

Eight magazines, or 56 rounds .....4 from each mag .....   Perfect!!!!!!!    Everything functioned splendidly. Easy racking.

That brings the total rounds from this piece to 677.

Results:  Charlotte NC Pistol:

Unmodified Magazines.  Easy-ish racking.   They all racked but not as easily as the 2 older mags in the Huntsville pistol.

Twenty Two magazines or 154 rounds.   Eleven from each mag......Perfect.  Everything functioned splendidly.  OUT OF THE BOX!!!!

Now we are smokin"

Comments are replies??

Regards to all and Merry Christmas.

Things continue to smooth themselves out.

196 Rounds of 115gr commercial reloads.

Magazine 1......98 rounds    FTF  MAG RELOAD #5 , RND 1  AND 3

Magazine 2     98 rounds ....perfect!    No Issues

Total rounds down range...621

All issues have occurred with Magazine 1..     Zero issues with Magazine 2.  Ever!

Groups continue to be very good at 7 yards.

Cleaning necessary.  Very dirty gun,   Parts starting to show movement/mating wear.  Nothing unexpected.

Its time to call BS on those that have slammed this pistol un-mercilessly.   Break in required.... yes.  Attention to the magazines..yes.   Junk.....NOPE!

AMMO =  115 gr COMMERCIAL RELOADS  FMJ ALL BRASS CASES.     NO STEEL CASES THIS TIME.....THE RANGE DOES NOT LIKE STEEL CASES.

MAG #1    91 ROUNDS
2 FTF     .....MAG RELOAD 4 ABT RND 3 OF 7

......MAG RELOAD 12  ABT RND 5 OF 7

MAG #2     84 ROUNDS    ====   ZERO PROBLEMS+

HAND RACKED EVERY MAG COMPLETE w 7RDS, NO PROBLEMS.    I SHORTENED THE FOLLOWERS IN EACH MAG AFTER THE FIRST TIME AT THE RANGE.   WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!

CLEANED THE PIECE...DIRTY GUN FOR SURE BUT THE REMAINING ISSUES ARE EITHER THE RELOADS OR THE MAGAZINE.....BEST GUESS.

A TOTAL OF 425 ROUNDS HAVE BEEN EXPENDED SINCE NEW. SHE CYCLES WELL.

LOVE HOW SHE CARRIES.

REMARKS??

I went to the range yesterday and after reading all of the data regarding the FTF and FTE's, types and numbers of rounds fired, and other relevant issues, I maintained a loose record of my results.

115 gr brass commercial reloads.....100 rounds...2 mags in use......ONE FTF at about round 40.  Nose dive.

115 gr WOLF steel case Russian.....150 Rounds ...2 mags in use .... TWO FTF at about 2  and round 50.  Nose dives.

6 attempts to rack a full mag (7rds) ....2 successful and 4 failures.

The unit shot a bit low 3" however I was able to produce Half dollar 7 shot groups at 7 yards a number of times.   I was pleased.  ;D

Cleaned with weapon last evening and everything seemed fine, dirty but fine.

Shortened the legs on the followers by 1/8 inch today.   The weapon successfully racked full magazines without a hitch.

I am very pleased with this pistol  If straightening the upper tang on the mags resolves the nose dive issue, this baby is a real keeper.   It conceals extremely well too given its dimensions.

Regards to all.

Introductions section / Christmas Greetings from Reno NV

In an effort to fine something that my wife would find easy to rack, I began the search that would ultimately replace our PPK/s's.   I stumbled upon the R51 on GB and grabbed one up before the $100 rebate period was over.  Soooo....for < $200, I had one in my hands.
Yesterday, to the range but that story for the next post.

Thanks for having this blog.
