R51 General Discussion / What do You Think?
October 26, 2019, 11:04:24 AM
Supposedly the R51 is discontinued, so why does Remington still have a slide dedicated to it on their website? I snapped this screen shot with my iPad to prove I wasn't crazy, lol.

R51 General Discussion / A New Magazine Failure
August 17, 2018, 03:49:49 PM
Hello All,

Just thought this needed to be posted. This was a new mag from Grab-A-Gun that I bought a while back, but just now started to break out and use. When I went to load it into the pistol this morning before heading out the door, I experienced a new problem that I have never before encountered. For whatever reason, with a fully loaded mag, I could not reciprocate the slide fully to the rear, and when I released the slide, it would not go fully forward into battery. No matter how hard I tried to pull it to the rear, it flat refused to go back further. I could get the slide to come fully forward, but not after giving it a forceful wack with the palm of my hand. So I tried to snap some pics one-handed so you can see what is happening. Very strange. Maybe the follower legs need to be trimmed??? This mag has NOT BEEN MODDED since purchase. So I re-loaded my good mag and headed out...frustrated. I wish to God somebody could get these mags straight!!!!  >:(

Finally got my hands on one of these beauties! Made by German Sport Guns in Germany. Unfortunately it is in .22 LR and not the original 8mm Kurz, but oh well, I probably won't ever be able to afford a $20,000 dollar rifle, so I guess I have to be content with this until they come out with a bigger caliber companion for this one.

Hilda just pulled a fast one on me today. As I was heading out the door this morning, I decided to load up a brand new mag I had stashed back. Ok, I know carrying an unproven mag isn't the brightest move in the world. When I loaded it with 7 rounds, I locked the slide back and inserted the mag. As I always do, I pulled the slide back to release and load a round. When I did, the first round immediately stood on its a** and pointed it's nose fully vertical. The slide was froze, so I dropped the mag to clear it, then tried again. This time, it literally jumped clear of the mag and chamber and landed on the floor. :o

I tried again out of frustration, and the top round again, jumped out of the mag and evaded getting fed down the pipe. :o :o I ditched that mag entirely and went with one out of the 7 I have that works.

Our friend and regular poster on this forum Blackie hasn't been on here for a couple of months or close to it. I think I remember something about hand surgery? Not sure if that is the cause for his absence or not, but I just can't help but be curious about his lack of activity.

R51 General Discussion / Great Deal on R51s
April 29, 2018, 12:08:03 PM
Hello all. Just posting this link for those who may not be aware. Cheapest price I have seen so far. So if you are after a second or third pistol, this would be a good source. They also have smokies for 287.00. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the link for them.

R51 General Discussion / Grab-A-Gun Magazines
April 15, 2018, 09:14:10 PM
Finally got around to testing the new mag I got from Grab-a Gun. I ran 30 rounds through that one mag this afternoon on some water jugs, and it ran flawlessly. Zero glitches or hang ups. No mods necessary!  This was a new 2018 mag. I think Remington has finally got it going...................maybe  ;)

Has anyone noticed their barrel bushings that may have individual scoring and scratch marks? Mine was free of anything like that when new. Now after about 290 rounds, it has these hideous scratches on it. Ok, so maybe I am exaggerating about it being hideous. But for someone who is picky about their guns appearance, and keeping it as like new looking as possible, this just got to me. I field stripped it the other day to see if there was a bur or dirt or something on or under the slide which could be causing this. It's as smooth as silk. I am sort of perplexed as to how this is happening in the first place. Anybody else having this problem? I will post a pic later today if anyone needs to see it. Thanks!

General Discussion / Rifle Confiscation in Illinois
April 06, 2018, 09:58:03 PM
Sad day for this country when they start to confiscate firearms from law abiding citizens. Deerfield, Illinois is giving its citizens about a month or so to turn in their rifles, or face harsh fines for not complying. As absurd as it is, a Ruger 10/22 is considered a "assault rifle" by their standards.

R51 General Discussion / They Have Done It
March 26, 2018, 07:23:08 AM
Remington filed for Chapter 11. Glad that they will be able to continue production during this process and hopefully get back up and going again.

http://www.ksla.com/story/37806262/gun-maker-remington-files-for-bankruptcy

Notice how the liberal media inserted the completely off the wall comment about Remington being the maker of the Bushmaster Ar-15 that was in Sandy Hook Elementary (Ooooooo evil AR's and evil gunmaker!!). Also, they are not the oldest gun maker in the world. I think that title goes to Beretta. They are however the oldest gun maker in the U.S.

Gun related links / Numrich has R51 parts
March 13, 2018, 01:11:23 PM
Anyone who is in need of spare parts can visit Numrich's site as they have every part for the R51 available, even magazines! Might be good to stock up on some spare springs as well for your range kit!

Just went to the local gun show last weekend and spotted a new in box Auto Ordinance Thompson. Only drawback is that it is a semi auto not full auto. The price tag was $2700, so sadly had to pass as that is too rich for my blood. Does anyone have one of these by chance? If so, would you recommend it? Also next to it was a NIB Ohio Ordinance 1918 BAR! Good times!!!!  8) I REALLY WANTED that one, but not with the $5000 price tag on it. I wish prices would tank!

R51 General Discussion / No folks, I lieth not
January 20, 2018, 01:45:24 PM
As the title says. I can actually load a 45acp into a R51 mag intended for a 9mm. If the sides weren't bent in, I could load .45 in these mags. Why the heck did Remington make a 9mm mag so wide it can hold .45 with no problem? I mean, this is a glove fit for a .45. Just like my 1911 mags. Seriously??

In addition to my addiction to the R51, I also have another addiction as well......M1 Garands. As an avid collector of the M1 rifle, I am always intrigued by the lowest and highest serial numbers of each make made, and those in between. So now it is starting to carry over to the R51. I have a Huntsville stamped frame made in July of this year serial number 20614. My question is, what is an approximate serial number when frames started getting stamped Huntsville, and when Charlotte frames end? I know this may seem a bit crazy, but I just can't help but be curious since I think I have been inflicted with the terminal illness R51itis.

So on November 30, I contacted Remington to get a replacement mag. Customer service girl was friendly and she said they would send me a free replacement. So on November 30, I get an email containing an invoice that lists the replacement mag, and on the invoice it states that delivery is requested by no later than December 4th. So today, I get an email notification from PARA PRO SHOP saying that my Remington replacement part has just now been shipped. The provided link to Fedex's website comes back as an invalid tracking number, and when I follow the link to PARA's website, they have a big banner at the top saying the website is for sale. Furthermore, they don't even sell mags, they have links for holsters only??? I don't know what to make of this? Anybody had this happen before? Thanks in advance.

Just a curious question for all those out there. Obviously, our beloved R51 isn't selling like they should, or should I say, like Remington would like them to sell. Not to mention Remington facing the possibility of a default. So question is, how long does the R51 have to live in yall's opinion? Should we be buying up as many as possible before a possible discontinuation.....say next year? Thoughts?
