R51 General Discussion / Defense ammo test
« on: November 05, 2017, 11:11:43 AM »
So Im trying to find a reliable self defense round for my R51.  I ran 50 rounds of Remington HTP 147 grain through it today.  Had 2 out of the 50 hang on the feed ramp.  Not quite good enough to make the cut.
Has anyone found a good one?

R51 General Discussion / Issue running 7 + 1
« on: August 18, 2017, 11:49:32 AM »
I am having trouble running a full 7 + 1 load.  The upward pressure on the slide from the top round in the mag will not let the slide cycle. I am unable to even rack the slide by hand if I load 7 in the mag with the slide in the forward position. I have to lock the slide open, insert the mag, and then slingshot the slide.  My R51 is fairly new. Will the mags loosen up after a while?

R51 General Discussion / First range trip with a new R-51
« on: July 31, 2017, 11:05:42 AM »
I put 100 rounds through my new R51 this past weekend.  I had cleaned and lubed it before the range trip to make sure everything was in good shape.  Also, practiced disassembling and reassembling it.
I was very impressed with the feel and accuracy of the R51.  Recoil is minimal and there was hardly any muzzle flip. I am a bit recoil sensitive, so when I say it's minimal, it really is a soft shooter.
The sights were right on target.  I was using 115 grain Remington UMC FMJ rounds.  Spent casings were not ejected toward me like other guns can do. The only issue was that out of 100 rounds, 4 needed a slight tap on the back of the slide to go into battery. I figure that will go away as the action on the gun get broken in a little better.

When assembling and disassembling the gun, I found that wearing shooting gloves makes the process much easier. Keeping the slide open by holding the barrel against the spring pressure is difficult with oily fingers.  There are some sharp edges at the breech of the barrel which made pushing the barrel forward against the spring pressure somewhat painful without gloves.

Overall the R51 is a winner in my opinion.  I'm glad I took the plunge and bought it.

Greetings everyone!
I just purchased an R51 and am delighted to find a forum dedicated to this gun.  I hope to share my experiences with the R51 as I will take it to the range for the first time tomorrow. It's too hot for golf right now, so it's a good time to be at the indoor range.
