General Discussion / Time for boycotts
« on: March 23, 2018, 12:33:16 AM »
Time to start boycotting business's that treat gun owners like second
class citizens!  My family has changed banks because of this.
We drive 40 miles to do business with a bank that has no
signs banning handguns.

R51 General Discussion / Locktite application on grip screws
« on: March 07, 2018, 01:00:06 PM »
I made a mess when I first tried to apply Locktite on the  grip screw bushings on
Blackie and Smokey.
I dripped the Locktite on the hole in the bushings and it ran through to the
Mag well.  I figured out a solution.  I rolled up a couple of Kleenex in the shape
of a magazine, shoved it in the magwell and then dripped the locktite in the
bushing.  Worked like a champ!  I screwed the screws in the grip holes,
and then pulled the Kleenex back out.  The excess Locktite was absorbed
by the Kleenex.  No muss no fuss.  Now I will see if the Locktite holds  the

R51 General Discussion / Catch up on old topic. Mag ,mods
« on: February 15, 2018, 07:58:06 AM »
Went to the range today (finally). Between the cold and these old bones,
I finally made it to the range.   All 8 mags functioned perfectly,  I used all the junk
9MM amm I had in my dope bag.  Only two misteps.  One ARX cartridge took a
good dent in the primer but did not fire, second try it fired.  And, 1 Winchester
white box cartridge Pulled trigger, no hit on primer.   Second try fired.
Both happened with Smokey.   I will clean it thoroughly and try it again.
Blackie worked flawlessly. I ran all 8 mags through both guns and was pleased
with the results.  Total of 150 rounds.

R51 General Discussion / The skinny on gun springs.

This is what I found out on springs.
Makes sense to me!

R51 General Discussion / Magazine spring and follower
« on: January 12, 2018, 02:57:13 AM »
I have noticed that there is no clearance where the spring fits into the mag follower.
The spring can get cocked under the follower and blocks the seventh round!
This is what I now believe anyway.
To get around this,  I insert the spring into the bottom of the follower and
while holding the mag vertically I insert the follower and spring into the mag
as a unit.    Then when you compress the spring into the mag, the spring
stays inside the follower.
FunFlyer's idea of beveling the inside sharp edges of the follower also helps.

When I picked up my Smokey at my local gun range here in Copperas Cove,
There was another R51 waiting to be picked up.
This in December.
Is there another member on here with a new R51 who lives in
Coryell County, Texas?

R51 General Discussion / 8th New Mag for my R51!
« on: January 02, 2018, 08:35:35 AM »
Got my 8th new mag from Big Green today.  It feels funky when I cycle
rounds through the pistol., kind of clunky.  I will try to get out to the range tomorrow,
and check it out.   If it is not too cold!
I am starting to believe that the R51 is even more picky than 1911s when it
comes to magazines.

R51 General Discussion / gonna clean my R51
« on: December 27, 2017, 08:35:45 AM »
After about 600 rounds, I am going to clean my pistol.
My conscience is bothering me.    I do not believe that
cleaning after every shoot is necessary, but that is my
opinion.     Do not do as I do.     I am satisfied with my
"Blackie".  Now to try out "Smokey".   Next Monday!
