R51 General Discussion / Re: R51 Threaded Barrels Available!

I am officially sold out, and wanted to give the community a big

Thank You!

I hope we helped to drive up the interest in the pistol and this forum. The next item will be metal triggers coming Q4 this year or early Q1 next.

What part of NM are you in? I was stationed on the Missile Range for a couple years, very interesting place. Just over the Organ Mountains from Las Cruces, love the food culture there!

I thought I responded to this yesterday but...

Anyway, if they are the sights that Remington sells on their sight it may be that the point of aim will be the same as factory.
I bought the Remington fiber optic sights and the point of aim is still 4" low at 7 yards, which is what I saw with stock sights.
The good news is I was able to tighten my groups with the new sights.

Hrm, that's not good. Much easier to lower POI than to raise it. If you don't mind losing the R51 aesthetics on the rear sight, you could install a higher rear sight from another pistol (maybe a CZ) or find a really low front sight (big dot maybe, or again a CZ).

Is low POI a common issue? Higher rear sight could be another good aftermarket product.

I think Trijicon may publish the sight heights for their various models? Windage, of course, is adjustable, so you should be able to just check the height difference to see the change in POI.

[There's one way to prove or disprove the chrome plating.  Put a drop of muriatic acid on it.  It will dissolve the chrome.

Another way is to set it on a Ford bumper and count to 12. If the rust leaches out from under the chrome on the Ford, you know it's got the plate...

 ;)

I expect it's stainless, so no hardening available, unfortunately. Would be possible to do it in Titanium, or maybe a really deep Type III Hard Anodizing in Aluminum.

Thanks Cameron. I thought you could harden stainless steel? I am no metallurgist, so I guess it shows. Titanium would be pretty expensive compared to stainless, so it's no wonder why it isn't made out of that instead.

There's not many stainless flavors that can take a hardening, it's the same way most are non-magnetic or weakly so. Both properties are based on how the metal is able to crystallize on the microscopic scale, and the nickel and chromium atoms in the SS lattice prevent it from being able to form the proper grain structure for magnetism and hardening.

Mine has that too, it's from catching on the sharp edges inside the slide during dis/assembly.
