Merry Christmas to all members! Be safe and have a great New Year!

The "CIP N" is a proof mark from the Commission Internationale Permanente pour l'Epreuve des Armes à Feu Portatives. In other words, International Commission of Firearms Testing basically. The "N" I believe designates a "Nitro" proof. The "US DE 17" is probably the identifier for the exporter.

I used to use a Desantis IWB holster. Plenty comfortable for me and had good gun retention.

What a find! Especially since the majority were recalled.

Yet again demonstrating this is a magazine issue and NOTHING to do with the pistol. Remington really should have caught this issue with their magazines. Thanks Sebvox for posting the video. Welcome aboard Andrew and glad you got yours running properly! Glad to have you and I hope you enjoy your little R51!

General Discussion / Re: Remington Plant Re-Opens

I sincerely wish that Remington would not have botched the initial release of the pistol. If they had not of done so, I believe it would have brought some stiff competition to the 9mm table. What would truly be interesting would be if someone could reverse engineer a frame and make something similar to a "Polymer 80" type kit for one of these pistols. Even include a pictany rail to mount accessories on. It would never catch on, but I have to admit, it would be neat. I just hope that the newly re-organized company turns out a better product than before. Maybe even bring the 1100 back?  ;)

Wow! That is something collectors dream of.....getting a gun like yours. Great score! Who knows how much it could be worth in the future. Especially with that kind of provenance.

Even though all manufacturing was moved to Huntsville in March of 2015, frames marked Charlotte were still being used up through December 2016 in Huntsville.  The first frames marked Huntsville start in January 2017.  All Smoke models are indeed made in Huntsville as they were introduced in September 2017.  Also, just because an R51 is marked Charlotte does not make it a G1.  G1s had a couple identifiers: R51 logo on the slide is in a different location and the sights do not have set screws.

I think that you are right that at the end of the production run they started using any and all extra parts to assemble guns and get them out the door.  I also think that your pistol could very well be the factory prototype model for the "Smoke" color variation.  This could explain the out of sequence serial number, blemish and used status.  Either way, it is going to be difficult to verify any information on the gun now.

No doubt at the end of production, Remingtons assembly line was probably very similar to Walther's at the end of the War: use what parts you have left and get something functional out the door. It would be very interesting if your smoke model is indeed a factory prototype. The out of sequence serial number would suggest that as Remington might have pulled the frame from the line and set it aside for some reason. Thanks for posting!

If anyone is interested, there is a Gen 1 for sale on Gunbroker https://www.gunbroker.com/item/875162865

A cool listing for sure. It's kind of shocking to see one still left in the wild. Some collector needs to scoop it up.

I was always hoping for the updated version of the model 53 which was the .45 ACP version of the model 51.  Supposedly the Marines preferred it over the Colt 1911.  Who knows, it could still happen...  R53?

One other observation......the r51 has problems feeding.  Could this be because we're basically using a 45acp mag for 9mm?  The rm380 gets a nice spacer in the back of the mag to fit the 380.  Why doesn't the r51 get this?

Lookie lookie

Dug these old pics up from a thread I started a long time ago. 45 ACP fits like a glove. Go get you a 1911 mag and stick it up the mag well. Let me know how it fits. I've tried it! Lol
