R51 General Discussion / Re: R51 Officially Discontinued

I sent Remington an email a few weeks ago expressing support for further development of the R51.  I received a prompt reply and the representative said that he liked the R51 for the same reasons but was unsure whether production would be continued or not.

The R1 Enhanced is a smart looking 1911.

Does the firing pin hole on the Peterson block look different on the two guns? Is one larger or have more rounded edges?

I completely agree, Swschu.
I like to think that even if Remington discontinues production, they can always start producing the R51 again at a later date.  Iím thinking that a lot will depend on Remingtonís financial health over the next few years.  At Shot show this year, it seemed like Remington is focusing on their hunting rifles and shotguns rather than self defense products. I can certainly understand that strategy.  The hunting market is Remingtonís identity and if they lose that, then Remington as we know it will cease to exist.

Are the cratered primers failing to fire?  I have noticed that primers that have a cratered appearance after firing is not uncommon with many types of 9mm ammo. And it happens using a variety of different pistols.
Unless the rounds are failing to eject, I just ignore it.

The new Beretta APX Carry is getting some good reviews.
Also, the Naroh N1 looks interesting.

The Sticky Holster by Remora doesnít even have a clip. It relies on the friction of the holster material. I have not tried one but they seem to be very popular based on what Iíve read on other forums.

Why buy a R-51 Pistol / Re: More than one R-51

I have a Charlotte and a Huntsville R51.  Both work fine. The only issues with the R51 are with the magazines.

I picked up a second one because Remington was running a $100 rebate at the time.

Since the R51 is not a high volume seller, production runs only take a few months.  There would be no reason to keep it in production 12 month per year.

Welcome from Texas!  Let us know your thoughts when you get to test your new R51. The videos on the Remington website are helpful for learning how to disassemble and reassemble the R51.

Email Remington and tell them how much you like your R51 and are looking forward to the continued development of the design.  Give them some encouragement from those of us who actually own the R51 and how itís a superior platform for concealed carry compared to the generic plastic Glock knock offs.

If the one you have is a Charlotte, NC one, then the new one will be a Huntsville, AL model.  So, even if they are both black, they will be a little different.
