Hi all,
I just ordered a R51 and found this forum. Sixty years old and been shooting since I was five. Retired  after 30+ years in Texas law enforcement. Looking forward to learning the quirks and operation to this model. Ill be asking questions about the pistol so I can learn from those who have been there / done that with the R51. Hoping I get a good one that can become part of my dependable carry choices.

Welcome Pointman... I've been in TX all of my sixty years. Thanks for keeping us safe.
I can't help much with ammo other than to say my R51 cycled more reliable with Speer Lawman FMJ which seems to be hotter than average. I haven't shot my R51 in a while. Mine has random feed problems and was only used at the range... Joe

Welcome fellow Texan!  The action on the R51 works very well.  Any issues that it may have are with the magazines. The most common issue is that some magazines do not perform well when loaded with 7 rounds plus one in the chamber.  That issue can be resolved, so let us know if you experience this or any others.
