Blackie, Are you using the same brand of ammo in all of your shooting? Some mfgs. or brands of ammo have dirtier burning powder, especially the cheaper stuff. Just a thought.FRED

Springfield,  RE; As to moving your pistol sights. Forget the vice. Lay the pistol flat on it's side on a really sturdy bench on a towel or piece of leather. Use a brass punch. In this case a 1/4" brass punch. A pretty hefty hammer. Make sure the piece your working on is very solid on the bench. Smack the punch really hard. It will take several good licks. In these type of dovetail cuts I always work the sights left to right. Hope this helps...FRED

Gunnut1,  As to your question about the R 51 sights. Refer to my post in General discussion ,page 2 Triijicon night sights for R 51. Dated Sept. 25,17.  Dawson has about any type of sights for any pistol. Hope this helps....FRED

I have done a search. I found a thread about the R51 shooting low on Google and clicked on in it brought me to the board and then I had to sign in. Now I can't find the thread. So, with apologies, I will ask the question.

I have close to 300 rounds through my R51 I bought about a month ago. It is shooting low. I have read that Dawson Presicion has the proper height front sight. Went to their web site and they have no listing for anything for the R51.

What is the trick on getting a set of sights from them?

TIA!  Hey Gunnut, As to your R 51  sights and shooting low question, Refer to my post here under General Discussion, page 2  Trijicon night sights for R51  Sept 25,17

Fellas, I just can't help myself... Just wondering about that "poor ol possum". Jug, did you have a bullet wound analysis done on the critter? Did you find the bullet and were you able to do the terminal ballistics on it? FRED

Knowing that your carry ammo will run in your carry pistol is a must. My carry load in the R 51 is the Hornady Critical Duty 135 gr. I also shoot my own homebrew loads with the Hornady 124 gr. XTP. I have also tried the Sig V Crown, Remington HTP,and Core Bond JHP, all 124 gr. They all shoot fine. My normal run is with the Win, ball 124gr. FRED

Hi Guys, My grip O rings did the same thing when I changed the grip panels. ACE Hardware has a really large selection of O rings. I found the right size and fixed things right up. FRED

Any word on when or if wood panels will be available for our R51's
Hi Jake,  Ref. to the wood grip panels, go to E Bay and type in "Grips for Rem. R 51" It list several wood panels as well as many others. I got the checkered walnut ones. They're a little thicker and really look and feel nice. FRED

Hi Guys, The Remington pistols use a Novak cut for their sights. The R51 sights measure front: .170 h, .125w. The Rear, notch is .075 above the slide, notch is .180 W.  I misspoke as to Trijicon at Dawson. Theirs is the Tritium sights. Same as. From Dawson I ordered the tritium set. The front sight height I ordered was .150 H. I just recently put on a nice set of checkered walnut slabs. They really dressed it up, and feels nice too....FRED

Hi Citizen, In reference to your question about the Trijicon sights. I installed the Trijicon night sights from Dawson Precision on my R51. It was shooting low like so many other R51s so an upgrade to lower sights was necessary. The pistol now shoots on the mark and are easy to see.... FRED

R51 General Discussion / Re: Defensive pistol course

Boy Citizen,  It sounds like you took a more advanced defense course. Unless you're pretty advanced with the tactical and physical approach to defense pistol shooting you need to start with a basic or starter course... Ranger 869

Hi Guys, I am Ranger 869 from south western Ohio. I'm a retired farmer and electrical inspector. I'm also a Vietnam Army Vet. I am and always have been anything guns and shooting. Always a big fan of anything Remington. With the intro of the R51 a few years ago I got really enthused until I started reading the reviews. This past December I bought one of the new issues. I saw a reference to the R51 Forum at the G&A Forum so here I am. I do enjoy reading all of the input from you guys... FRED
