Thanks John,
Yes, I had tried that but didn't do it "well enough forward". So failed.
Took it to a local gunsmith. A young guy who's the resident at "famous place".
He took care of it instantly.
Long ago as a "problem solving" engineer I learned one of the best ways
to solve a problem is to find an expert in solving "that problem".
I've been retired 25 years. Still a great idea. {:^)

Started to clean today.
Pulled slidestop pin.
Grabbed barrel grooves to pull slide forward and off.
Slipped. Slide moved backward, locked in place, barrel slightly out.
As turned it to look at it, barrel/slide "jumped".
Still locked in place.
Now barrel is even with front of slide.
Slide is 3/8" forward of back of frame.
Looking in slidestop hole upper half shows
a fore-aft steel piece cut smaller on bottom.
I'm stumped. Did I make a paper weight ?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Dan

My nearby little town has the original Tombstone Tactical store.
Wife and I sometimes stop in after BBQ lunch to play with stuff.
Liked the Gen 1 looks/feel, but was scared off with disastrous rep.
Oct 2017 American Rifleman review was was fairly nice to Gen 2.
BBQ and new R51 on next visit. Ran around 300 rounds of various
FMJ and odd leftovers from my "Defense Rounds of the Month.
Satisfied, perfect. Got DeSantis "minimalist" leather OWB and IWB.
Love the OWB, fine under a polo. IWB not much fun.
For Vette console, pocket DeSantis Superfly (Nemesis with extra flap).
It's Pure Stock, no mods. I don't worry about all the bad-mouthing.
Every time I go for new loads (just went to Fed Punch) the stuff
being replaced has gone bang. Every single time.
I love the sights and ease that it shoots. I KNOW of what I speak.
Years ago I made the mistake of a Sig P290 little beast for EDC.
It's been locked in my safe for years. Has NO resale value.  :'(
