General Discussion / Re: Firearm safety

Agree on the safety training, it should be a requirement for any first time gun buyer. It's just not the way things were in our youth when lots of people grew up around guns. Too many people get their start only as an adult, never having had any experience around guns. Some of those people are worse than ignorant, they are ill informed by fantasy fed to them in movies and TV shows.

It may be beneficial to both the consumer and Remington if a "Return Address Shipping Label and supplies" was included with the gun, magazines, handbook and Registration card. :)

I do like the humor  ...

I nearly bought a Gen 1 the first time out, I mean I was actively trying to find one with credit card in hand. Well, luckily the troubles became known before I found one.

When the Gen 2 came out I told myself I'd wait six to twelve months before trying a new one out of the box. Now that I've read a number of reviews, watched a bunch of YouTube videos, I'm convinced that Remington still has some distance to travel getting this gun to where I'm willing to risk my limited gun budget on one.

Which bums me out. I WANTED to be an early adopter of this pistol.

There are less than a hundred members on this blog unless I am mistaken, so if the R51 is so terrible, where are all of the other folks and their problems?
...

Just a comment on that point, I'm a member but have not bought an R51 yet. So I'd not have made either a positive or negative post as yet. Could be there are other members out there also waiting and learning from what they read here.

Originally I fully intended to be an early buyer the first time but the gun was recalled before I found one. Now I am being much more cautious, Still fascinated by and wanting the R51 to succeed, but also wanting to give the second generation time to mature. Reading all the info from people who now have the second gen R51 is my plan for figuring out when to buy. Maybe that's in six months. Or, maybe Cabela's will offer a great Christmas coupon on gun purchases and I won't be able to resist using some of my Cabela's VISA points on one.

Happen to notice these while Googling about for info. Thought people here would find them of interest.

R51 General Discussion / Re: !st round chambering

New here. I'm thinking of using some of my Cabela's VISA card points on an R51 but am waiting for the "Gen 2" to be as bug free as a concealed carry gun ought to be.

The discussion on the full mag - slide racking problem is great info, sorry to see there are still some problems but pleased people are finding fixes too. I think this next question fits in with that problem discussion:

Is the R51 a 7+1 or a 6+1 Capacity?

What I am wondering about is if after you lock the slide open, put in the full magazine and release the slide, what will happen if you then take the magazine out, add a round to top it off and put it back in the gun? Do you now have a working and trustworthy 8 rounds in the pistol? Or does it jam trying to eject and feed over a full 7 in the magazine?

New here. The R51 seriously annoyed me by being a disaster before I could buy the first version. I'm hoping Remington has redeemed itself with this new thing, though a few concerns are found in the posts I've already read. Will keep my questions to the proper forum, but will just mention here that General Patton carried the original model 51 in.380 ACP and liked it very much.

Couple of web pages that mention Patton owning a model 51:
