R51 General Discussion / Re: Shootin' Low

Were you recommending aiming at the bottom edge if a bullseye?   In this technique the bullet strikes half the diameter of the bullseye higher than point of aim.  Aiming at the bottom edge of a bullseye only works at a single specific known distance shooting against a single known diameter bullseye.

Anyone attempting to shoot in any other condition using this specific technique needs to learn how to shoot since the bullet will always hit higher than point of aim -- it's designed to.

The Army hasn't shot at bullseyes in at least 50 years and shoots point of aim = point of impact.

Center hold is the only practical hold.  Target hold requires an adjustable sight for every different range.  Handy for rifles at Camp Perry shooting known diameter bullseyes where the bullet will strike half that diameter above the hold point.  Maybe useful if attached by black bullseyes of specific diameter.

Using a target hold other than at Camp Perry is evidence is no knowledge of shooting whatsoever.  Get some training.  :)

My R51 excels in it's intended role as a small carry pistol.  Fun to shoot?  Got nothing to do with that mission.  As long as this pistol reliably shoots the entire magazine it's fulfilled it's mission.  A reload is carried but shooting a complete magazine in a defensive situation is unlikely.  If I was expecting to fight hordes of attackers I'd be carrying my M4 Carbine.

Never considered this as a range pistol and if it fails at that (see above) I'll still keep it.

R51 General Discussion / Re: slide action pull

Ya gotta compare this to other pistols of the same size which seem to be .380ACP blowbacks which are extremely difficult to rack,  The R51 is a baby compared to a Beretta 84 or 85 which requires many folks to manually cock the hammer first.

Sling shot grip is very ineffective.

The slide stop can certainly be used as a slide release but against slide spring pressure it's best left times you only have one hand available.  But one finger?  Nope.  And there's an almost sharp corner that I felt when I tried it 10 seconds ago.

Not sure what you mean by "chambering."  I retract the slide to load, unload, and perform immediate action.

Mine is also marked Charlotte.  00320xxR51

New Gen2 R51 came Friday.  No problems (other than getting it apart and back together for cleaning!).  200+ rounds so far including Winchester 147gr JHP (RA9T and RA9B).

Mine came on 19 August.  Still has the North Carolina address on the frame but it appears to be a Gen2 pistol and has a "couple hundred" rounds of 9mm NATO (M882 Ball) and a box or two of Winchester 147 grain JHPs thru it without a hiccup.
