The redesign and the durability of the Gen 2 will extend its longevity to make it an heirloom for generations to come...like its predecessor the Model 51.
I would like to hope that this mean steel-on-steel contact for the locking shoulder.  Throughout this affair, I have learned that abandoning hope is the best strategy, though.

Not sure why people argue with each other over this stuff.  A few points here:

1) Remington sold me a gun and I returned it the next day with the promise of having it returned three weeks later, repaired.  That did not happen.  It's been over 2 years now and they have not returned my gun.

2) I have a 1911.  I neither desire another one, nor did I ask for one.  If I ordered a Big Mac at McDonalds and it didn't have any special sauce, I would take it back to the counter and ask them to make it right.  So, I get a new Big Mac, right?  If not, I get my money back.  My choice, correct?  I don't want a motherf***ing Quarter Pounder, even if it sells for more.

3) This isn't about money.  Taking money out of the equation, I am asking for specific performance of the contract I had with Remington to repair the firearm or replace it.  An R1 does not shoot the 9mm ammunition I have nor does it fit in my R51 holster or take my R51 laser. So, if it's about money, my worthless holster, laser, and ammo aren't reimbursable so I lose money trading for the R1.  Good luck selling an R51 holster if they don't make the Gen2.  Good luck mounting my laser to an R1.
