Sigh, typical newbie. I just figured out what "Big Green" is. I can't believe, after all the negative publicity, they would make such crap mags. Also, and, yes, it may just be me, I have not done well with Winchester White Box with my 51. That's when I switched to 124 grain. Yet I am reading that others have done fine with other 115 bullets from other brands.

R51 General Discussion / Re: "Guests"

Regarding the sale of R51's, they are practically giving them away (have patience) on Gunbroker. Also,  you are right on the parroting of YouTube trash talk. I really like my R51. i'm grateful there's a forum of fellow fans of the pistol. I've owned and sold close to 50 sidearms over the years and I find this to be in my top five for ergonomics, comfort, and dead on accuracy. I'm working on dependability.

Man, only been twenty minutes on this forum and learning some great stuff, I'm the new guy that posted 124 over 115 grain learned on YouTube. Hey, it worked for me but as I said open to any suggestions. Also, I too noticed an incredible build up of carbon from just ten mags.

R51 General Discussion / Re: GRIP SCREWS

Being a newbie, this might be heresy but...I had a Sig 229 and in changing over the grips, the grip screws walked away. To temporarily aleve the problem I went to Ace (the helpful hardware place) and I guy really helped me in getting a decent and attractive set of temporary grip screws that became permanent. Now, in fairness, I have not looked at the R51 screws but maybe even for a temporary fix. Plus, I think I paid all of $1.20 for the whole rig and probably less.

R51 General Discussion / Some thoughts and questions
February 24, 2018, 05:49:45 PM
I'm a newbie on this forum. Just did an introduction in the other forum. Here are some thoughts and a question or two:

When Remington came out with the R51 i jumped. And, as we all know, it was a disaster. Almost two long years later out came the "revised" R51. Got it. Let me say the one thing that I learned on YouTube about the R51. For me (and this guy...) 115 grain would not clear the chamber. I switched to 124 with IMMEDIATE results. I suspect if I run down the topics here that has already been addressed. Took it to the range twice now. Dead on accurate. I love the ergonomics. I love the thinness, and yet, even with 124 grain, it's more steady (and less painful - old guy with arthritis!) than any of the other single stack subcompacts.

I am using the R51 as a secondary carry and, frankly, it's conceal carry frame makes an almost invisible print under my shirt. Also, open to suggestions on a holster - IWB & OWB.

My sincere hope is that the bad PR from the first round does not crush the second round. Also, I think Remington should have a note about 124 grain over 115. HOWEVER, I am all ears if you have a brand of 115 that works for you. Now I'm going to get stupid and get an extra two mags and probably some night sights. Open to any suggestions.

Introductions section / Newbie from central Virginia

Looking forward to connecting with R51 lovers. I've been carrying for just over a decade. I have a favorite carry weapon that I have used about that long. I also, over the years owned/sold about fifty pistols (yeah, crazy). I have been wanting a single stack subcompact 9mm for several years but have been disappointed with all of them, even the famous ones. Not with the R51. Will share my thoughts in another forum thread.
