Title: Used R51 Purchase
Post by: gold40 on February 24, 2019, 09:13:11 AM

I recently purchased a used R51.  Serial # is 20,0xx.  Supposedly it was manufactured in 2016.  I "presume" it is 2nd generation, well after the recall.  Seems to function fine, including with my cast bullet reloads.

Does anyone know the "cut-off serial number" for 1st generation?  One report suggest it is 4,000?

When I phoned Remington this week, the customer service rep kept insisting "There is no recall on R51's."  Very strange considering previous publications direct from Remington.

I can't help with the serial number, but...
The picture at the top of this page shows a Gen1 slide.
The Gen2 slide has the "R51" logo closer to the ejection port.
Hope that helps - Joe

Here's something for thought; if the R51 is indeed "dead" for Remington, and production has ceased, as I suspect, in another 30 years a new generation of pistol fans will be looking for them! Some failed designs such as the Colt American and others never got a second life simply because they were too odd looking or poorly performing. But many of us won't be around to see it! Enjoy things in the present, and have fun!  :) I wish I had the opportunity to get a grey one, but what the heck! One and done!
