I contacted Remington customer service around the first of the year and was told my return email the new R51's were scheduled for release during the 2nd or 3rd quarter of this year. Since we are now in the 2nd quarter I contacted them yesterday to get an update. Alas, the news was not good.
Remington has now stopped promising "2nd or 3rd" quarter release and are now back to "We appreciate your patience as we continue our efforts to re-launch the R51. Currently we don't have a timeframe for the reinduction but our Huntsville R&D Center is working to have this back on the market as soon as possible."
A step backwards. I now seriously doubt I'll ever see a replacement R51 for the one I sent in.
My disgust and frustration for this company and their business practices grows daily. If they're not going to replace the r51, they should just say so. I'd love for them to send me back my original firearm (which was working perfectly after several hundred rounds), but I'm sure they'd say it's already been destroyed. I feel duped and misled, and will probably never buy another Remington firearm after what I feel is their blatant and constant disregard for their customers.
Exactly how I feel. This is simply beyond belief. Any company that treats us customers in such a manner will never, never, receive any business from me in the future.

Then ask them to send you a 100% Full Refund of
YOUR purchase price or one of the 1911R1's which, though having a significantly higher MSRP, they've agreed to trade out to you, then shake the dust off of your feet and be done.
I've had a 1911 in hand now for over a year. Its MSRP is a few hundred dollars more than the R51, a all-steel gun, classic and often considered a "must have," and is boringly reliable.
Getting the R1 out of Remington was exactly the same thing as them saying, "We're really sorry about your frustration. Here's your full purchase price back and $200-$400 as an apology." I don't know why some folks are so stubborn. A $200-$400 apology goes a long way in my book.
Peace favor your sword,
Kirk

Yeah, they're treating their customers so badly. The R51 MSRP was $389. The MSRP for the 1911R1 is $774.
That free $385 upgrade sure is mistreating us. ::)

Kirk,I believe you're missing the point. People are upset about being CONTINUALLY lied to. Yes, the 1911 is a good deal - and I just took it - after BEING LIED TO for a year an a half, and it still stings.
Honestly, I'd rather have gotten my original, perfectly working r51 back, though I know that isn't an option.
Offering a good deal - especially when you fucked up - IS good business, however letting to customers (that's what I'm calling it at this point) is bad business, and I doubt the sting of this will leave many that have waited happy in the end.

You miss the point. I already have an R1 and I don't want another. I want what I was promised and if they won't admit they can't provide that then I won't accept something to help them make their problem go away. If they would send me a check for an amount necessary to purchase a Sig 938 I would take that. Other than than, I want my R51. If they can't make an R51 then at least have the balls to tell the public they can't.

Being lied to? You mean hearing rumors and gossip from random people who may or may not have been inside Remington?

The get the 100% Full Refund.
Or get the R1, sell it NIB unfired, and make a profit at Remington's expense.
Kirk, I MOST CERTAINLY mean lied to. I didn't get my info anywhere BUT Remington. I had called or emailed several times - usually every few months - and was either told xx quarter of the current year, or that there is no time line, but they are still being produced. Matter of fact, I was told by the Remington rep that the second gen would be out by that September when I called to send mine in almost 2 years ago.
You said you received your r1 as compensation already - over a year ago, so I'm curious why you're new on these boards. It seems like you're trolling. Obviously you're as welcome as a anyone here, but you just seem to be shitting on people and telling them how wrong they are. These people just want straight answers and their promised replacement firearm.

I still think he is a shill for Remington.
I've know Kirk for years. He is not a shill for Remington. He is a well known Mod on several Forums. If you don't like what he says you can ignore him with out the name calling.

Because I intend to buy the Gen 2 when it comes out. I liked the way the Gen 1 felt and shot.
QuoteIt seems like you're trolling.
Then you don't know what the term means.

Only when they're actually wrong. And anyone claiming they have a right to their demands about for information on this subject from Remington is, honestly, just wrong.

I know what they want. I want that to. But that doesn't mean that anyone is
ENTITLED to it as you seem to be arguing. They're not.

That's because you're getting all emotional and pissy about it. You're demanding something you have no legal right to demand and stamping your feet when you don't get your way. You
WANT to believe that I'm a "shill" because I'm telling you something you don't want to hear; that you can't always get your way. Sorry, but that's not real life.
I know you want "straight answers" but you're not
entitled to them. And whining and crying that you're not getting them won't change that, nor will throwing tantrums and tossing accusations "shill" or "troll" of someone points out that uncomfortable and unsatisfying truth to you.
One and a half years ago, I told Remington straight out that they were being stupid by playing it close to the vest and not being totally transparent to their customers. I wrote a letter, I told their techs, and I told Certified Remington Armorers this. I told them that they were developing a public relations FAIL by doing so. But I have no delusions that Remington is somehow legally required to do so.
Do I want "straight answers" and total transparency? Yes. Do I get everything I want? No.
Neither do you.

I don't need a law degree to know that I do have a legal right to be made whole when I returned a defective product with the promise the product would be replaced by a safe product. I was even repeatedly given the time frame when this would take place..
And I'm sure much to your disappointment, at 73 years of age, there are many times I haven't gotten my way. However, I have always received what I was legally entitled too and I will this time also. Promise.
Gentleman I have some fantastic news, my brother In Law works for Remington and has just informed me this evening that the R51 is coming soon, 2000 have already been produced in the new Huntsville facility and apparently Para Ordinance guns will now have Remington's name on them.
Any further info that I receive I will bring here immediately. But rest assured this word is from an actual Remington employee.

And they've fulfilled that obligation by offering you either a one-for-one replacement with a R1 or a 100% refund. That's pretty much all you have the rights to.
QuoteAnd I'm sure much to your disappointment, at 73 years of age, there are many times I haven't gotten my way.
My disappointment? What makes you think I'm interested in that? I am simply telling you that you don't have any legal rights to insider information.

They've already offered you that and, apparently, you keep refusing. <shrug>
Not sure why people argue with each other over this stuff. A few points here:
1) Remington sold me a gun and I returned it the next day with the promise of having it returned three weeks later, repaired. That did not happen. It's been over 2 years now and they have not returned my gun.
2) I have a 1911. I neither desire another one, nor did I ask for one. If I ordered a Big Mac at McDonalds and it didn't have any special sauce, I would take it back to the counter and ask them to make it right. So, I get a new Big Mac, right? If not, I get my money back. My choice, correct? I don't want a motherf***ing Quarter Pounder, even if it sells for more.
3) This isn't about money. Taking money out of the equation, I am asking for specific performance of the contract I had with Remington to repair the firearm or replace it. An R1 does not shoot the 9mm ammunition I have nor does it fit in my R51 holster or take my R51 laser. So, if it's about money, my worthless holster, laser, and ammo aren't reimbursable so I lose money trading for the R1. Good luck selling an R51 holster if they don't make the Gen2. Good luck mounting my laser to an R1.

You guys seem to have some unrealistic beliefs about the legal concept of "Being Made Whole." Offering either a replacement or a 100% refund IS BEING MADE WHOLE. Remington has completely fulfilled its obligation to Make you Whole by those two options. If you go into McDonalds, order a Big Mac, get told that they can't give you one, offer you a Quarter Pounder
OR a full refund, t
hat's 100% completely ethical. What's so hard about this concept?
Take money out of the equation? That's, frankly, laughable. Red Horse, IMS, threatened to take Remington to Small Claims Court. If he somehow managed to get a Judgment, you know what it would be? 100% refund.
So, yeah, I'm not sure why people are arguing over this stuff. I think it's due to a prevailing sense of Entitlement in our society.
