I must have missed some posts. Did Remington introduce a new magazine for the R51. I'm looking at the pics associated with the R51 mags on Bud's and Grabagun and it looks like there are 6 holes for viewing shells instead of 4 that I have on my mags. Also, there appears to be a subtle difference in the front where they've removed the dent in the metal and extended a rib to the front of the follower.
That mod sounds like what you guys have been doing to 'fix' the nose dive issues, etc.
Is this true? Or am I looking at the 'stock' images that don't match the R51?
I had several nose dives in my first couple of hundred rounds. Love the handling, pointing and general feel of the gun. Just wish the feed was more reliable. Haven't tried any defensive rounds, yet. Strictly standard pressure round nose stuff.
Drendean,
The mags I have gotten in 2018 still have the four spy holes on each
side of the mag. All I know is, the 2018 mag has had no need for any
mods. The 2016 and '17 mags at the least needed the follower legs
shortened, and at the max, shorten Legs and bend out the thingy on the nose of
the mag. One I even had to grind the top of the follower flat.
Blackie
Blackie,
Thanks for that info. I bought 4 additional mags in late '17. Had trouble on two outings with nose dives. Haven't mod'ed any of them, yet.
Will try to get a couple of 2018 models. I'm hoping that cures the ills. If so, I'll definitely try some of your tricks on the old mags.
Only other issue I had was the frozen firing pin issue. Curiously, it didn't occur during shooting but while I was 'playing' with the bits. Cleaning and reassembling things. I knocked out the retaining pin and didn't really see any crud in there, but the pin is free now. I have not shot it since doing that.
I am getting ready to order 3 magazines ,1st I see mags with 6 holes on the side ,,2nd I see mags with 4 holes on the side , just to set me straight , can anybody help with witch ones I should buy , and wetre would be the best place to buy them,, I was going to buy off big green ,,,,

Johnny,
I have 8 mags, from '16 to '18. The only one I have not had to modify
is the 2018s. Are you having trouble with nose dives or failure to feed?
Pick 2 mags, shoot them and only them, at least 4 loads in each mag.
Keep a log of which mag performs.
And whether or not the mag was modified in any way.
It won't hurt to engrave numbers on the sides of the mag. That is what I do.
See what happens, send me the results on the log you kept.
I will see how it goes.
Also, remember do not use the slide lock to load the gun.
Slide the mag into the gun with slide locked back. Pull back on the slide and
release it. Then take the mag out and replace the round that is now
in the chamber. That will give you 7 +1 :)
Blackie
Blackie,
I ordered a mag from Grab-a-Gun the other day. Still haven't shipped yet. As soon as they get in, I will go pop some water jugs out back, and report on here how it functions stock with no mods.

drendean,
I would not do anything to the 2018 mags. Unless they have issues.

I don't see any different markings, and I have both. They also have the same part number.
The only difference I could tell with mine is between gen 1 and gen 2

Are the follower legs on the 2018 mag shorter than the earlier mags?
