Title: Introduction post
Post by: Xtratoy on January 07, 2018, 02:07:59 PM
I just got a smoke R51. I have ran about 60 rounds of reloads and 1 round I found on a gravel road that looked like 30 trucks had ran over. It fed and fired. When I bought mine  the  salesman at the store represented it as as being qualified for the $100 rebate. When I tried to get it my UPC didn't show up on the list for the rebate. I contacted Remingtons rebate center and was told it wasn't in the rebate. I went back to the store where I bought it and talked to the store manager and he covered the $100 rebate at the customer service desk!!!  I have found one complete disassembly video from looking on this site and I believe this is one gun I won't ever be disassembling myself. A first for me. As complicated as the lower frame assembly looks, it is hard to believe they are priced as low as they are.

Welcome to the forum. Way to go with the instant rebate. Disassembly and reassembly of the R51 is a bit complicated but not that bad. It helps to have some patience and three hands though.

Xtratoy,
Just field strip it like the video says.   You have a great pistol.
The video is long winded, but gives a good field stripping guide.

Welcome to the forum!  The disassembly seems pretty difficult, but if you can disassemble a 1911, then you should be ok with the R51.  It's best to have someone show you how or you can look at the videos on the Remington website.  I had to watch the videos more than once to get comfortable with it.

It's really too bad that the Youtube presenter didn't clear the pistol and show that it was unloaded before messing with it, pointing it at the camera, pulling the trigger, etc.  He lost all credibility when he skipped that all important step..
