Title: POINT AND SHOOT
Post by: 1911SHOOTER on December 10, 2017, 10:29:01 PM
Just a thought,
I have not seen any discussion on this forum about practicing "point and shoot"
with the R51.    I practice three ways, with the sights, with the CT and point and shoot.
I find that the R52 is very amenable to point and shoot   Up to about 12 yards.
As an aside,  I also find it more enjoyable to shoot tin cans at 50 feet than paper.
For some reason, I hit more beer cans than bulls on paper.    Maybe a product of
a misspent youth shooting at them with a .22?
Comments? :) :) :)

I read an article taken from a circa 1950s article dealing with police here in Louisiana that were perfecting their hip shooting technique. In fact, fast draw hip shooting can be quite effective and deadly. Unfortunately, it must have gotten deleted when I transferred my files over to this new computer, because I can't find it. I have tried it myself and found it to be quite effective, and surprisingly accurate. I have done some point and shoot, but nothing further than about 9-10 yards. It works pretty decent for me. As for tin cans at 50 feet, that's boring........around here, we use exploding soda bottles, lawn mowers and tanerite!  ;D

I like to mix it up when I'm practicing my skills. I'll stagger some spent shotgun shells out from about 10 to 15 yards and a few steel plates off to each side of those, maybe 20 feet to each side. I practice my steady aim to pick off the shells with an occasional quick "point & shoot" to ring the plates. I'm pretty decent with my S&W Shields and deadly with my Buck Mark but, haven't practiced with the R51 yet. I want to change the tall front sight so I have the same POA as the others before I shoot at targets as small as shells.

My r51s shoot very much like my P7.   I mix it up too at the range by shooting for bulls with the sights, then a magazine with quick double taps from the bench top.   Adds a new dimension.
