Title: New smoke silver R51
Post by: grivera on September 01, 2017, 05:51:23 PM
Just noticed a new color variation in the Remington website. Not sure if it's new. Looks nice.

Interesting.  The new color model indicates that Remington hasn't given up on the pistol.

Interesting the fact that the frame now shows the Huntsville, AL factory.  I wonder what else might be different.

Still has that crappy plastic trigger.

The Huntsville stamp was bound to happen as soon as the original Gen 1 frames were used up, and certainly all of the smoke frames are new.  I'm too am wondering if there are any functional updates in the new frames.

Polymer pistol designs have zero aesthetic appeal to me.  Adding stainless slides or OD Green/Desert Tan plastic makes them even less attractive.

On the flip side, I was drawn to the R51 from the beginning.  It is solid (metal, except for that damn trigger) and has nice lines; even curves.

Whereas some of the candy-colored choices of the Taurus Spectrum were a little over the top, it certainly opened my eyes to the possibility that color could be added to a frame to enhance the appearance of a firearm.  I like what Rem did with the Smoke R51 (not that my opinion matters) and this seems to be evidence that they still investing in this platform.

Dutch,
I bet you could remove that "Crappy Plastic trigger" , take it to a machine shop, and they could duplicate it in steel.
I for one would buy one.

My black R51 has the Hunstville AL stamped into the frame. I got that about 45 days ago. So its been on it for a while. Currently it's back in AL getting the grip safety fixed.

SCurmudgeon,
I too like the new smoke look.  And remember in this forum, your opinion does matter.

That is a sharp looking color combination. If the price is right, I could stand to get a second R51.

I wasn't a fan of this video, but it gives a good look at the smoke silver version.  The video is mercifully short.

Yamil Sued is no Hickock45... just sayin'   ;)

The vid is fine for what it is, which is why I thought it worth sharing.  It is nice to see someone out there, enjoying the R51 instead of bashing it.

Just so I'm clear on this...

Are you saying that Mr. Sued's presentation is dry, stilted, and a little bit halting?  Like he needs to take a few classes from Toast Masters or something?  If that is the complaint, then I agree.  That said, I don't really hold that against most people who aren't trying to be a professional video presenter.  It's not easy to be "natural" in front of a camera.

Which is why you don't see my mug on the interwebs.  I shouldn't have injected my editorial opinion.  It was unnecessary.

That didn't bother me, just confused me as to what you didn't like about the vid.
