....got my $50.00 rebate check from Remington. So that brought my R51 price down to $249.00. Bought it from Bud's Guns online for $299.00 (they are Kentuckians). What a deal for such an excellent Gen 2 R-51 pistol. I also discovered that M-Pro 7 gun oil and gun cleaner is an excellent non-toxic combo to keep my R-51 running and gunning flawlessly. I could not be happier. I just purchased a kydex IWB holster+ a kydex OWB holster in carbon fiber trim. I will see which is one I like best. Also purchased a Fobus 2 mag paddle holder from Midway for $19.95. So I am looking forward to trying them out. Right now I carry in a fanny pack, which is comfortable for biking. So lots of different ways to carry my R51. I like the idea of carrying with only 6 rounds in the mags and one in the chamber. So 19 rounds total concealed carry should be enough for just about any situation that may come occur (we live in the age of radical Islamic terrorism) and there are always street criminals and crazy meth addicts!! I do not wish to "test" the Lord so I will utilize my R51 for self defense. Armed Citizen over and out.....
Yep, the R51 has a lot to offer (once broken in) - especially at $250.

SCurmudgeon,
You also gotta admit, with the idiosyncrasies with the R51, We all had plenty to do in out spare time amusing
ourselves with figuring out how to fix them. Something Remington washed their hands of once Gen II came out.
I have not seen a single word from Rem on the problems with the mags.

I recently emailed Remington Support about the magazine problems. If/when I hear back, I'll post it here; but I'm not holding my breath.

I guess its business decisions like these as to why I'll never have one of those corner office jobs.
I have no idea of how much money Remington has lost on the R51; and certainly they have admitted it was their own fault. Still I can easily see a Remington executive directing that not one more red cent be spent on R51 R&D - even to implement a relatively simple solution for a magazine follower problem.
It might be different if the market embraced the R51 Gen 2, but instead - because of (in part) the magazine issue - Remington ends up with a self-fulfilling, catch-22 scenario. Remington won't fix the magazine issue because Gen 2 sales don't justify it. And Gen 2 sales never took off because on ongoing bad press related to the magazines issue.
So Remington admits to itself that they missed on the R51, resolves to not let this happen again, circles its wagons around products they haven't screwed up, in a few years they will stop selling the R51, and that will be the end.

Very well said!

Maybe I spoke too soon. Looks like there is an opening...

Just received an email from Remington asking for my Serial Number and a Mailing Address.
No more, no less and with no further explanation. It will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

What were there symptoms you reported to Rem?
Mag falling out on 7+1?
FTF on first or second round?
Can't rack slide on a full mag?
Here is the response I just received from Remington after giving them my mailing address:
QuoteWe will send you a couple of replacement magazines. Your parts order number is xxxxxxx. They are currently on back order, but we will email you once it ships. Should you have additional questions, please feel free to contact our Consumer Services Department at 800-243-9700, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, EST, Monday through Friday.
They are sending P/N: F304502. I responded and asked if these are the same as what was supplied with the Gen II R51. No response to that question yet.
Maybe being on back order indicates that some change has been made in the manufacturing process. I'll certainly give them a thorough going over when they are received.
Hopefully you will be able to spot some differences after they arrive.

All of the above.
Sounds a whole lot like the responses I received from Remington during the wait to get my Gen II replacement.

I just noticed that the P/N they are promising to send (F304502) is not the same P/N that is listed on several retail websites as the R51 Magazine P/N: 17696, but Out of Stock on most of them. Maybe F304502 is an improved update. Neither P/N is shown on the Remington.com website.
I will report back when I have them in hand.
Just got my rebate check. Remington is pretty good about processing their rebates. I took advantage of their last two rebates on ammo and the checks always arrived in about two months.
