I just found an easy tool to help take down the R51 for us old farts with weak hands.
The narrator is kinda dull, but the tool he uses to hold the barrel is ingenious.

A spring type clamp? Seems like a good idea. I'll have to try it.

That is what I was looking for. I'll have to try that.
Not bad, but I'll stick with my wood block. It's just the right length to also remove the takedown lever.

Tex,
That slide lock lever needs to be a tad longer like the 1911. I get tired of having to find a pointy thing to push it out.
your block of wood is not bad either.

Where in Tx? I am in Copperas Cove. I think Tex-mark is around here somewhere also.
Could be wrong.

Tex,
Copperas Cove, North, South, East or West? Heck, we are neighbours.

I'm in the Houston area.
What a GREAT tip! Went to Lowes and bought a 1" spring clip for $2.29 and tried it out as soon as I got home... Even if I get nothing else from this group for the next many years, this tip alone was worth joining! Thanks!

Nope. I've been using the same handle online for the last 20 years or more.

I tried this. Worked great in the take down stage. Still had a dickens of a time putting it back together......sigh. I'll get the hang of it. Next range time is Thursday so another learning opportunity presents itself.http://r51pistol.com/Smileys/default/cool.gif
This spring clamp really helps!
I push the slide lock out with a small home made tool consisting of a wine cork with the end of a chopstick glued into the end. Looks like a stubby ice pick w/a flat end. I just use it to start pushing the slide out while the spring clap holds the slide.

Tucker,
Not a bad idea. With all the good ideas us guys/gals come up with on here, maybe we should start a consulting company for R51s? :<}
