R51 General Discussion / Re: 7 + 1

I just got off the phone with Remington. I had talked to them on January 2. They were sending a box/envelope for me to return the pistol and mags. Unfortunately, it fell through the cracks. I was assured today that my packaging would be sent.  :P

No matter what happens in the marketplace regarding this neat pistol, it's a good thing that an American company developed it, and those of you on this site gave it a go by buying and tweaking and tinkering with it purely out of the love of firearms and shooting. All of you are what the firearm hobby is about. Any experience you have working with the R51 will enhance your general 'gun knowledge' in general, and will have been worth the time and effort. Have a safe Winter! :D

Thank you, sir!  I take that as a compliment!

I made one more trip to the range today. I tried all three of my gen 2 magazines with 7+1.  One 2 of them I had live ammo stove pipes on the last round.  On the other mag I had a nose dive on the first round.

I've tried calling customer service but they are closed until Wednesday.  So I'll call them then and discuss the options.  I will keep y'all posted.

Cool!
I watched Sootch's video, but he only loaded 7 rounds each time.  He never topped it off.

I'll see if I can find HRFunk's thread...

Thanks, Zen

Mine won't either.  I have 10 additional semi-automatics and all of them work with mag capacity +1.  Mine works usually with 7 rounds. I have issued a problem report with Remington. I'm hoping the newest magazines have their tolerances perfect!

We shall see!  Thanks for responding..

Have any of you been able to load 7 + 1 and have the pistol function properly through all 8 rounds?

Hey, Howard!  Yes, I was able to successfully use 1 in the chamber and 7 in the mag. I attribute that success to the new magazine.

My first semi-auto pistol was a Kahr. Kahr pistols have tight tolerances and stiff springs. Their owner's manual suggests you lock the slide open, insert the full mag, and use the slide release to chamber the first round. I have used that method with every semi-auto I have including the R51. FOR ME, it works to provide consistent force in chambering a round every time.

I hope Remington is successful in repairing your pistol! These handguns are fun to shoot when they're working correctly!

I bought the new magazine direct from Remington hoping to receive the latest iteration rather than one that has been stuck in the distribution line.  That was my logic whether it actually worked that way or not....

I'll definitely put more bullets down range just as soon as I load more rounds.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

R51 General Discussion / Latest Range Session

Last Friday I took a quick trip to the range. I wanted to share my results with the group.

My Charlotte R51 had the runaway mag release pin issue described in other threads. Remington returned my repaired pistol Thursday. After firing 107 rounds, the replaced pin stayed at home.  So far so good!

Firing at 7 yards with a 6 o'clock hold, my R51 hit where I aimed!  Mine did not shoot low like some others have.

I recently ordered a new magazine from Remington. With this mag I was able to load 7+1. Every single time without fail! This is the only mag I've had that would work as advertised.  It worked with 125gr hand-loads and 115gr and 124gr manufactured FMJ.

Everything I tried worked without fail!  I sure was surprised!!    ;D

My range trip was very satisfying! I fired 107 rounds down range and the new mag release pin staying right where it belongs!  I will continue to watch it closely and report any problems back to y'all.    :D

I received my pistol about an hour ago. They "replaced the mag catch pin, safety/function check."

I hope to hit the range tomorrow. For the record: mine is a Charlotte, NC pistol.

Both of my mag release buttons work more smoothly than before.  Maybe they accomplished something....

They received mine on July 9. I received email this morning that it is being evaluated. I sent the pistol in with the pin still sticking out.

I am having the issue and I'm around the 1,000 round mark.  BUT, I don't know if I have a Huntsville model or not - Remington has my pistol!  I could find nothing on the box that indicates where it was made.  I THINK I remember seeing Huntsville on the slide or frame. When I get it back, I'll let y'all know.

That is not very encouraging! They have mine now to "fix" pin...

My round count is right at 1,000 also.  I've contacted Remington and am waiting for their shipping container.
