All just an opportunity for the smaller guys to serve the market demand... 8)

R51 General Discussion / Re: Barrel Thread Pitch

Never doubt a man with a machine shop and a little time on his hands...

Yes, I've done the CAD for a barrel extension to thread onto the end of the stock barrel and allow the threads to start 0.125" from the end of the slide and allow suppressor and other devices.

I'll have the prototype machined up next week for T&E, and will report back with some teaser pics.  ;)

No PhD's here, my noggin's big enough as it is!

I'm just a lowly BSME, but I do have certifications from both the Army and Marine Corps engineer schools, and VA Systems Engineering, so I guess that counts for something?

Now is the time to mourn the great losses we've suffered in tech and trade schools, industrial institutes, OTJ. There's so much societal pressure for everyone to go to a college they don't need for a degree they can't use, that nobody stops to consider a trade anymore.

Learn by doing. There's a lot to be said about bootstrapping, about studying on your own, and experimenting, and spending time in the shop working out the ideas floating around in your head. That's what's so fun about the smaller gun communities!

Fun Flyer,
All I can find on the web about springs is that the springs take years to get weak.
I know that my carry weapons  have loaded mags for months and do not get weak.
IMHO.

Correct. Contrary to popular belief, it is not duration of loading that causes modern spring steel to 'set', but the cycles of loading, unloading, loading, unloading, loading...

Springs can be overloaded, though, and spring design attempts to limit the percent compression. Pistol mags place a higher premium on maximized space utilization than individual longevity, so you get springs designed to compress to 100% in order to squeeze in that extra round.

R51 General Discussion / Barrel Thread Pitch
January 17, 2018, 04:55:55 PM
Doing some R&D on a threaded barrel concept, and had a quick question about the preferred pitch.

I'm most familiar with 1/2-28 for muzzle devices, but see a number of 9mm pistol barrels in 13.5mmx1LH as well.

If a R51 threaded barrel were to hit the market, would y'all be interested in the metric thread, or would the 1/2 thread be preferred?

For suppressors, all mine have been Form-1'ed and I haven't paid much attention to other commercial pattern as they don't constrain my design.

Hello World!

Greetings, from Central Indiana! I'm Cameron Husk, Director of Engineering for a VOSB machine shop called 'DangerCo, LLC'. I just purchased a Gen2 R51 last week with the $100 rebate (couldn't pass it up), and am really looking forward to learning the Pedersen system and working with this nice little handgun.

I run a CNC design and prototyping shop, so I will probably be seeking the community's feedback on potential new product development. Some of the things we're discussing are:

  • Threaded barrels
  • CNC Aluminum adjustable triggers
  • Improved followers
  • Grip panels

It's a very niche community (what with all the poo-poo'ing on Big Green), so we'd like to get involved with aftermarket support and serving a dedicated group of enthusiasts.

Thanks all!
