Welcome. I believe a lot of the bad press with the R51, and much of the Remington offerings for that matter, are from people who have never touched one. I'll admit my 51 hasn't been 100%, but other than one magazine's occasional glitch, it's been damn close. I also have a RM380, two R1 1911s and an 870 from Remington which all have been outstanding.

Welcome from Arizona. I agree with the field-stripping non-issue. I actually enjoy tinkering with the R51 and find most other pistols boring by comparison.

General Discussion / Re: 9MM Hand Load for the R-51
December 16, 2018, 02:32:32 PM
I haven't been reloading very long but found 4.7gn of HP38 slinging a 115gn coated round nose bullet works good in all my 9s and is very accurate. I've compared the primers and brass to Hornady 124gn +P through my R51 and didn't see any notable differences. I just picked up some Longshot for my 10mm loads and want to compare it to the HP38 in 9mm as well. It's supposed to give a higher velocity at a significantly lower pressure.

Recently I watched an R51test posted by Nutnfancy on You Tube. He gave it a bad review because he hates the look, the grip, and the safety (all of which I like). But was impressed by the guns trigger, accuracy and reliability (things I also like)

I pick up my new R51's next week.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum fiveodano.

Nutnfancy LoL. I'm surprised you could sit through his ramble long enough to get anything out of it. That guy likes to hear himself talk ,and really talks about nothing relevant. Tim on the MAC is another one. Watching him is like watching a monkey with a football sometimes. Just read their comments section and you'll understand what kind of followers they're after. Most have probably never even touched an R51 and agree like sheeple.

I'm one who also didn't care for the grip safety initially, but have grown to like it. The trigger, not so much, and that's why I had to do something about mine early on. The R51 isn't perfect but it is a far cry better than some 9's on the market.

I've not found that to be the case with my 1911R1's. I'm curious, has Remington ever confirmed the "Combat Hold" for the sights, or did shooters just come up with it as a way to explain the low POI for the R51. I keep seeing people post that information in forums, but I've never seen a reference to an official comment from the manufacturer.

Howard

Howard,
my R1-S is the same, along with my RM-380. I think the R51 is the odd-ball here. My R1 Enhanced has an adjustable rear sight, something they should have put on the 51. I did replace the front sight on mine with one I made in the shop. .040" shorter and it's perfect now.

Low POI seems to be the norm with most, if not all, R51s. Mine needed .040" taken off the front sight and is perfect now. You might want to measure your new sight set before you install it to see if it's any different then the stock sights. Some say to use a combat hold(cover the target) but why do that when most all modern pistols are sighted for a 6:00 hold.

Welcome from Arizona. Do you own an R51 or just some boots?

Todd,

Any updated shooting reports? Just wondering. The weather is finally starting to break, and I am going to be heading back outside to shoot some more in the upcoming days. Also, have you started carrying this one?

Sean, I try to get to the range at least once a week and have fired all my 1911's a bunch. All have been 100% reliable so all are fit for carry duty. The only issue I have with carrying 1911s, is concealment so summer carry is limited to my Shields and pocket 380s which are undetectable/comfortable IWB. I'm still undecided on which OWB holster I want for the 1911s but am sure to have one for the winter.
