OK shot the new R51 for first time today. I have four magazines. Loaded all up with seven. All shot fine with no hick-ups, no feed problems. Then picked two of the mags and shot 7+1. Again all ran smoothly. I like this pistol!

It does shoot low, even aiming center verses the six o'clock target picture.

Ammo shot was Fiocchi 124 gr. FMJ 1150 FPS

I bought a holster  and mag pouch from "Simply Rugged". Holster is made to fit the Crimsom Trace laser. I installed the laser after I shot all the rounds today so the shooting was iron sights.

Tried to attach holster pictures but it said file to big.

Sounds like a little piece of Texas Heaven.  My Great, Great Grandfather was killed fighting Commanche Indians in Texas back in 1869.
Yup, secret location in the TX hill country. Small ranch. Closest town six miles away with population 700. My great grandpa fought rustlers and bandits along the Rio Grande with a Winchester model 92 made in 1895. His saddle rifle, which I have and still shoot occasionally. I'm sixth generation native Texan, twelve generation American back to 1760.

SW Texas away from all the cities. Visit the board every couple of days in the evening mostly.

I just ordered one (leather holster) for my new R51 from simplyrugged.com . It Is the CUDA model. You have to click on the add laser or light. Their holsters are top notch. I have over half a dozen holsters from them. His belts and magazine pouches are great too.

R51 General Discussion / New member with questions

Hi, just ordered a R51 and need to find out what ammo these pistols like.
Break-in and range FMJ ammo; will it feed steel cased? What works?
Bullet weight; 115, 124, or 135 grain?
Carry ammo; does Hornady Critical Defense / Critical Duty feed well?
I've read the posts on fixing the possible magazine and other possible problems. Good info.

I'm hoping this gun will run reliable enough for me to make it one of my carry pieces.

More questions later.

Hi all,
I just ordered a R51 and found this forum. Sixty years old and been shooting since I was five. Retired  after 30+ years in Texas law enforcement. Looking forward to learning the quirks and operation to this model. I'll be asking questions about the pistol so I can learn from those who have been there / done that with the R51. Hoping I get a good one that can become part of my dependable carry choices.
