Title: Holster
Post by: Laserbeam on October 10, 2018, 12:16:41 AM
Hello, All - Any suggestions for a good OWB holster with a thumb break?  I've got a couple of Makarov holsters which fit great BUT the thumb break strap goes over the grip safety.  When snapped the strap doesn't depress the grip safety but the thought of going over the grip safety gives me the heebie-jeebies.  I'd like to find one where the strap goes over the back of the slide.  Thanks in advance.

I bought this Talon holster on the Remington website:

https://www.remington.com/shop/R51-Talon-OWB-Black-LH/p/16855 (https://www.remington.com/shop/R51-Talon-OWB-Black-LH/p/16855)

It was initially pretty tight but after following normal final fitment/stretching procedures it's a pretty decent holster. The thumb break as you mentioned fits over the end of the slide and not over the grip safety.

I use a DeSantis 033/75 (see below) - the strap does go over the grip safety, but does not depress it.

I found a place on Amazon with a holster for the R51.  From the Amazon photo it looked exactly like the R51 holster on the Remington website.  I ordered it and received it today.  It DOES look exactly like Remington's holster.  It is very well made, the fit is superb, and the retaining strap goes over the back of the slide NOT over the grip safety.  It's made by J&J Leather Sales out of Ocala, FL specifically for the R51.  The only differences are that instead of a Remington embossing on the front it is embossed with J&J and it's about $20 cheaper ($44.95 plus shipping).

I bought a double mag pouch for my R51 mags from J&J on Amazon. It looks well made and I'm happy with it. I'd assume their holsters would be well made also.
