Thank you.  They visually look the same at a glance.  I'll be trying both gens tomorrow.

General Discussion / Re: Availability in Stores?

Thanks all.  I got mine through Impact for 369 + reasonable shipping.
Any experience with Gen 1 mags in the Gen 2 yet?

General Discussion / Using Gen 1 magazines with Gen 2?
August 19, 2016, 08:45:46 PM
I missed something.  Someone here said that Remington doesn't recommend using original magazines with the new version except as range backups....or something to that effect.  I believe it, but I'd like to know where it was said.  I didn't notice it in the manual, and I had just bought 3 NOS mags, which I haven't tried yet.  So, does anyone know where it is aid, and if it is a potential warranty-voiding issue, etc.
Thanks.

General Discussion / Availability in Stores?
August 03, 2016, 09:57:58 AM
The Remington website says it will be later in August before the new R-51's will be "on the shelves."  Has anyone (who is not a previous owner) found them available anywhere?

Any word on stores selling them to the general public yet?

I'll be one of the first to place my order when and IF the things ever actually arrive.  I can appreciate everyone's enthusiasm, but I share in the skepticism and cautious attitude of the venerable gun dogs here.  It is certainly way too early to be handing out congratulations and passing the jug around.

General Discussion / Life without the R51
May 11, 2016, 10:51:48 AM
From the time the R51 has been recalled to today I have enjoyed the company of good family and friends, eaten way too much good food, bought three pistols and one rifle, one new house, bought the wife a new car, worked like a dog to pay for all of the above (OK,, OK, TO START paying for all of the above), and I can't really say my life is less fulfilling because Remington has not been a cooperative, transparent manufacturer during the whole process.

One of these days, if they decide to actually sell another one of their interesting-looking retro-styled pistols, I might still be interested.  I will be less interested because of the way they've behaved so far, but I'm not going to lose a moment's sleep over it either way.  And if someone else produces a better-looking, better-performing pistol before them, then I'll buy it instead.

Remington has lost much good will in the past two years, not because they apparently poorly executed the engineering and production of a greatly hyped product, but because of the way they have not dealt clearly, cleanly, and directly with their own consumers.  I wish Remington great success--we need more American manufacturing of everything--but I reckon my life is going to be pretty much the same whether they eventually fly right or not.

General Discussion / Re: Getting frustrated
April 08, 2016, 10:37:39 PM
The quality and dearth of communication is frustrating.  Most of us can understand that if there is fundamental issue in the design or materials it could take some time for a replacement model, even if there were no major re-engineering or design of the pistol or the process of manufacturing it.  Remington would do well to just explain it, send refunds or worthy compensation and continue to develop the R51 or abandon it.
The new subcompacts are clearly a priority of theirs for promotion, and I expect to see a 9MM version of that before the R51 returns (which may in fact never happen if the new 9MM is a big seller).
If I had an original R51 I'd hold onto it would at this point.  It will only grow in value and if it fires well, keep it clean and in the box.  You will make money on it eventually.
C'mon please, Remington is better than this, and if they want to remain a premier American brand,
Joel

Still waitin' and hopin' .  I haven't heard anything further myself, but am pleased to read about some movement forward here on R51 Pistol Forum.  I wouldn't worry about Remington eventually making things right, even though I am in full agreement that they have been negligent and even incompetent in clearly communicating with customers.  To their credit, they did offer some immediate remedies when the pistols were first "recalled," including a 1911 replacement (though still a Remington) which listed for a higher price than the R51.  The offer of a replacement R51 with perks was too optimistic and in hindsight a foolish gesture.  I imagine they have granted refunds to anyone who reasonably pursues one....  Has anyone dealt with Remington recently regarding this?  Just curious.

I again stress that I am confident they will get it right the second time.

Early in January one poster noted that Remington had told him/her that they had produced 50 re-designed R51s which had tested out so far  but were still being tested.  Pending a successful outcome they hoped to be producing pistols for sale in the first quarter of 2016.  Has anyone else heard this or more recent news on the R51 re-release front?

General Discussion / Re: It's Back!!!
January 10, 2016, 12:57:38 AM
Well, that's somewhat encouraging, if true.  (I believe you....I'm just not sure I believe Remington).  It would be great if these 50 hold up and test out well.  I am still holding out for a R51 (to at least give it a try) before buying another model.  I have to think that after getting so much WRONG for so LONG, they've put in the sweat and effort and engineering to get it right at last.  In the mean time, if Remington does not radically re-think their P.R. and Communications personnel and practices, it won't matter anyway.  They have generated so much ill will for an American company that so many of us want to like and support through their reticence, bad information, misinformation, deception, and cryptic communication throughout the whole R51 release, apparent cover-up, recall, and then re-launch.  Let's get back on track, Remington.

Introductions section / Hopefully, it's not dead yet
November 14, 2015, 08:45:49 PM
I wondered earlier here if the R51 was unofficially cancelled since Remington are producing a new subcompact series in .380, with larger calibers planned, in a more traditional configuration.  Personally, I want an R51 because of its Pederson design and if it proves reliable in its second generation, I'd like to make it my carry weapon.
With a full-size Glock and also a SR1911, I am looking for a compact or sub for daily carry.  I am more impressed  with the  originally advertised low recoil/reacquisition qualities and the more "natural" shooting grip and angle,  My ultra-reliable Glock and the classic 1911 have their obvious virtues, but the R51 will hopefully provide sufficient quality to go with its distinctive looks and retro-mod design.
So Remington, for the non-collectors but earnest users like me who are really looking forward to fresh new model in 9mm, please get it right and get it to us ASAP.  (And I've seen the new subcompact .380 and I won't be buying that one.....period.)

Introductions section / R51 dead now?
November 09, 2015, 10:11:48 PM
With the introduction of the new .380 it looks like the R51 may finally be cancelled.  Remington's newest pistol is said to soon be chambered in several larger calibers, including the 9mm.  It would seemingly replace the 51 as the new subcompact carry model for the troubled company.
Anyone here anything else?
