Thanks for the nice review. There have been several magazine modifications mentioned over time.  What did you do to your magazines?

Thanks for the info on the Lee sizing die.  Do you have the catalog/part number?

R51 General Discussion / Re: Front Sight

paul,
Have you tried "Military Center Hold".  This is what the R51 sights are set up for.

Will try that next time I get to the range.  Thanks!

Who sells a replacement front sight that is lower to raise point of impact?  Thanks.

Other than grips, has anyone seen after market parts for the R51? Magazine improvements, etc.

R51 General Discussion / Feeding Problems
May 14, 2017, 07:01:29 AM
It has been quiet about feeding problems, rounds nosediving in magazine, etc. Does this mean that nobody is seeing problems currently?

Got my barrel a day early. It does indeed fit just fine. I put 4 mags through it without issue. it was fixing to rain, so I had to be quick. Here are some pictures. The E-bay gen 1 on the left an my gen 2 on the right. Mine is shinier, because I had polished the feed ramp. IMO this was a great deal for a backup barrel.

Thanks to paul7177 for the heads up on these.

You got to use yours before I could . Happy that it worked out well, I saw no reason why it should not have. You are welcome for the heads up!

I have NO explanation why they were removed, just that they do not interfere with the breech block. Maybe easier to machine?

I purchased the eBay barrel and just installed it.  It fits perfectly in my Gen 2!  Also cycled a magazine of dummy rounds through it with no problem.
I am looking forward to trying it at the range.

R51 General Discussion / Feed Ramp Differences

The left barrel is my Gen 2 R51.  The right barrel is one for sale on eBay.  The second one has sides on the feed ramp. They both are marked identically 9mm P+. Has anyone seen differences in barrels like this?]

Well, it appears that your mags are the same as mine. No idea why I and others have no jams, and you do. I would suggest possibly limp wristing the gun (which could cause a nose down effect on the rounds), But people get touchy when others suggest possible operator error.  :)

I thought of that, but have made sure I am not doing that. Just that it shot like a well oiled machine after I modified the magazine. It isn't that it did not work frequently with the original magazine, but had too many failures to feed with hollow points. I used ammunition from several manufacturers, no cheap ammo. Hollow points were my main concern and I could not trust the gun.  The modified magazine is very close to my S&W M&P magazines in shape. When I conversed with the Remington technical person, he thought it was fine.
I have no other explanation, but I just do not like the inward bend at the front and in my mind it is not needed.
BTW, there are many others that have seen similar issues. So the answer is????

Here is another photo from the top comparing the original R51 magazine, modified R51 magazine, to my S&W M&P magazine.

to my S&W M&P magazine.

Here is a photo comparing the R51 magazine i altered VS S&W Shield, S&W M&P Compact, and CZ75.
Also, I compared feed length of 5 different 9mm including Glock.  All have approximately the same length feed rails.
All I can say is this worked well for me and the altered magazine is not much different from other makes.  None have the bent inward tab.
