General Discussion / gave up
November 14, 2014, 08:07:03 PM
I gave up on the R51, junk...got lies every time I called Remington, 3rd or 4th time asked to talk to a manager and was told the truth (I think) that they failed to remake them by the end of October and they could not make the new replacements until mid 2015.  offered to give me a 1911 45 cal. or my money back. Decided I never wanted to have anything with REMINGTON on it.  Bought a Nano today.

Introductions section / Re: New on board

Welcome to the board.  There's a pin smaller of the two that's to the rear of the gun next to square QR code.  That was the one I had problems with.  Also the slide stop spring its easy to mess the tab on the pin.  If the tab ends up on top of spring every time gun is fired the slide will lock up.  I'll post when I find out when my gun will be repaired.

General Discussion / gave up took the gun in.

I decided to take the R51 in to have all the issues checked out and fixed. I'll keep you posted on its progress though its repair.  Glad I bought the gander  MTN firearms protection program for $30.I'll let them deal with this mess.  They have a very good Remington rep.  We'll see how good.

I finely got to compare the R51 to Ruger's LC9 out on the range.  My wife and I did some range shooting, she uses a Ruger LC9.  We were using Federal ammunition 115 grain FMJ Target rounds.
My wife shot off a 2 magazines with here LC9, and I asked her to try out my R51.  She picked it up and said it felt heavier, after she fired off some rounds, she said the recoil felt greater than the LC9.  I tried the LC9 and have to agree with my wife that the LC9 does feel like it has less recoil than the R51.  I'm not sure why this is.  She also liked the smoother back strap on the R51, but thought the grip was too wide for her hand.
The LC9 has a smaller harder to work slide stop lever than the R51.  The safety on the LC9 is very hard to work and located in a hard to reach area.    The LC9's magazine release is smaller and NOT ambidextrous.  Trigger pull seemed much too long with the LC9, but then the R51 had a shorter harder pull.  The LC9 does have a much better chamber indicator, you can see and feel it, where the R51 has a hole you must look down, not much good in dark or poor lighting.
Both guns handled and worked great.  They both have some good and bad points. We both shot about 75 rounds each.
I had one small problem with a pin that wanted to come out.  It's the smaller of the two pins to the left/rear of the QR code on right side of frame.  That's that square made up of dots, you can scan it and its gives the model and serial number.  My R51 seems to be working better the more rounds I shoot.
Hope this non-pro review is helpful.  It's the second time I wrote it, I had it all wrote out the first time and forgot that the bard will log you off after 60 minutes and lost everything I typed in.

General Discussion / no parts yet for the R51
June 02, 2014, 03:29:28 PM
I called Remington to buy some extra "Slide Stop Return Springs" I was told that they did not have any parts for the R51. I know this is a new gun, Remington should have thought to set up for parts for this gun before they started selling them.  I was told to check back in 30 to 60 days.  Hope nothing breaks or I loose a part.😞

Introductions section / intro

I must have skipped this.  I work in maintenance for a manufacturer of office chair controls.  I bought the R51 because it was compact and could be used left handed.  I've now have run about 200 rounds of 115g target ammo and its starting to free up and work much more smoothly.  I plan on shooting more this week and will post how it worked.

I just started having the same problems,  I was thinking that I wasn't holding the gun right(limp wrist) I have not had an out of battery fire.  When I bought it from Grander Mountain I bought there service warranty, maybe I'll take it in and see what they say.  I'll post how things go.  This started after about 150 rounds of target ammo 115gr.

I'm finding that the one I bought is rough acting(slide), its like things just don't line up and the slide is hard to  work.  Has anyone had this problem? Over all I do like the gun. So I'm interested in how you cleaned up the slide action.  I had the problem with the slide spring, it moved out of place causing the slide to lock up   on almost every shot.  Easy fix pull pin out,  repositioning the spring and putting it back to gather.
