I'm not necessarily accusing Remington of something sinister, but selecting 10 guns at random per day doesn't mean that they selected random magazines as well.  What if by intention or accident they did their testing with known good magazines?

Also, in terms of magazine design tweaking...  Yes, somewhere during the 1.3 million rounds of testing they probably identified a magazine problem.  And I'll be their engineers probably want to fix the problem.  But with all of Remington's financial  problems, and noting all of the other new products Remington has launched since the re-release of the R51, I can easily imagine that management directed engineering to work on tasks that had a bigger impact on the bottom line.

I'm asking, because I don't know, but I'm guessing there is some substantial liability to be concerned about in selling after market parts for handguns - especially safety-critical triggers.  Wouldn't this be the case?

We know that Remington is sucking air right now with significant debt, weak market, slumping sales, and turnover in executive management.  I'll bet the decision makers are focused on saving the company, and their strategy is most likely based upon shoring up their bread and butter / flagship product lines.  They may very well care, but with limited engineering and quality personnel, it may be a question of economics where they dedicate their resources.  We don't have visibility into the totality of their problems.

I do hope they get their act together because I've enjoyed their products over the years: a collection of 3 eclectic rifles, two workhorse shotguns, and now the R51.

Does anyone who had an original Gen 1 R51 remember if the trigger was as wobbly as it is in the Gen 2?

Combat Center hold is to cover the center of the bull with the sight.   Hope the article helps.

I really like the Military/Combat Center hold at longer ranges.

I was shooting at an NRA Official Pistol Target, 21" x 24" with a 5.5" bulls-eye at 50 and 75 feet.  Just cover the bull with the front sight dot, confirm the sight picture with the rear sights, focus back on the front sight, and manipulate the trigger.

I shot my R51 almost as well as my full-sized Browning Hi-Power, which I normally use for target shooting.  My Browning has a much better trigger, but because of the Combat Center hold of the R51, I was focusing harder on my form than I was on the target and achieved good results.

My shots were hitting low when I first started shooting my R51.  But after Blackie explained this Combat Center thing, and I put some effort into it, I found the R51 is plenty accurate - especially for a compact pistol.  It is a shooter.


P.S.  At shorter ranges, when I'm trying center punch a 1.5" bulls-eye, I still prefer the standard target shooting sight picture, but I was able to get some good hits with the R51.

Material (plastic v. metal) and design (solid v. skeletonized) are aesthetic concerns mostly.

My two cents (which is worth about two cents) is that one of the reasons I bought my R51 is because it had a metal frame.  I'd prefer it also have a metal trigger.

But my biggest complaint with the trigger is that its wobbly.  I don't think it is the plastic flexing, but I could be wrong.

Has anyone been able to figure out the source of the wiggle?

Yeah, the problem comes in when the bean counters won't give production the go-ahead to implement what engineering says should be done.

You can also no go onto Remington's website and they list 7 holsters in right and/or left hand.

I don't know if any of these holsters were designed specifically for the R51, but you'd hope that folks that know what they are doing tried the fit and found it worthy.

Remington is showing the Smoke/Silver version of the R51 on their website again.

(It was never completely gone off their website if you had the link cached, but if you tried to search for it from the Remington homepage, it didn't come up.)

R51 Silver/Smoke is listed with an MSRP of $12 more than the all black.  Maybe stores will be stocking them again.
