I wish Remington was as healthy as Sig right now.

Kinda hard to argue with German quality  ;) . However, I am proud to say I don't own of these polymer wonders yet. Just good old American steel. Oh, and a post war P38!

Czech steel and quality are also superb, in fact better than most.  I have a CZ83 and a CZ75 SP-01 Tactical.  Both are all steel, will shoot anything I feed them, are extremely accurate and smooth shooting.  They far exceed my Sig Blackwater, Beretta 92 and R51 - all three also made of all metal.  The CZ's are the best pistols I have owned, ever.

I have a friend who has an FFL and a Class III license who will not purchase a US made handgun of any brand due to quality problems.

I haven't taken mine off yet; wouldn't a common split-ring washer work?

My thoughts, too.

I just looked closely for the grip screw o-rings.  They are not present on the screws holding the new wooden grips, they are not in the box where I put the factory plastic grips and I would have seen them if they fell out on my desk when I changed the grips.  A close look at the screw looks like the screws are so short that there is not enough length on the screws for an o-ring on them when holding the grips.  Is it possible that they were not on mine from the factory?

For those of you who have seen them, are they actual tiny rubber o-rings or metal washers?.

Xtratoy,
Just field strip it like the video says.   You have a great pistol.
The video is long winded, but gives a good field stripping guide.

It's really too bad that the Youtube presenter didn't clear the pistol and show that it was unloaded before messing with it, pointing it at the camera, pulling the trigger, etc.  He lost all credibility when he skipped that all important step..

I want mine, and I'd assume almost everyone on this forum wants theirs, too.

Do you have a Gen 1?  I thought they were all recalled, but I could be mistaken.

Now here's a collector's pistol.  Only about 200 made.

Get 2!

Seriously, if someone were to put away a Gen1 and Gen2 in NIB condition, I bet they would be a collector's piece someday. How many Gen1's are going to be on the market?

The next obvious question is "Who would want one?"

One of my favorite LGS's recently dropped Big Green because of their pricing policies.

Get Remington to send you some new mags.  I bought a second r51 with one crappy mag.  Put it in my last gun, which has been pretty flawless, and suddenly it's nosediving, doublefeeding, etc......

I think the guns themselves are fine.  The mags are most of the problem.

They did send me two a couple of weeks ago.  Since they appeared to be the same as what came with the gun, I just threw them in my gun bag where they continue to lay.  I haven't had the time to go to the range since, but I don't have a lot of hope.  Remington, for me with this pistol, has been a big let down.

I see you're in Atlanta.  Want to trade a walther Ccp for that r51?

Thanks, but no thanks.  I have enough pistols.  If I do decide to dump the R51, it will be sold not traded.  Thanks again for the offer.

However, one must realize that ammo can and is a big factor.  The gun cant be any better than what one feeds it.  Unlike some other folks on other guns, I dont believe that every gun should run every brand/type ammo out there!

I find way too much divation in any ONE BRAND of ammo, that one could reasonably expect ANY gun to run them ALL perfectly!

I have a Beretta 92FS, , a CZ75, a CZ83 and a Sig Blackwater.  All have worked flawlessly on whatever ammo (including Russian steel) I've used without the first glitch - not one! - in a lot of years.  It is a real disappointment that a company like Remington has put out such a glitchy pistol as the R51.  A major manufacturer's product should not require the amount of kludging this pistol requires.

Even though I've modified the mags and run several hundred rounds through it, the R51 is still not reliable enough for me to use for CC.

Just my personal experience.  Happy Christmas!

I've shelved my R51.  I am unable to get 100% reliability with my preferred CC ammo - Federal 115 grain JHP +P+.  Most failures are FTF by hanging on that front lip of the mag; and I'm sick of fooling with it.

My CZ83 is 100% reliable with any ammo, and it's only slightly more bulky than this baulky R51.

I'm holding off on any holsters for the R51; I want to see ones specifically dedicated to the pistol, not just a coincidental 'perfect fit', although I respect peoples' experiences and postings thereof...

Did you see the photos I posted in another thread.  Perfect fit for my R51CT.

Well, at least they make one that will fit with a laserguard!

I do need an IWB though.
Guess I had better look into them, thanks!

Several available, but some look to be very bulky.  See here:
