Title: Trigger - Who wants a metal one?
Post by: Trojan117 on January 14, 2019, 06:47:40 PM
The only complaint I have about my R51 right now is the stupid plastic trigger. After digging in the forum it seems that I am not the only one of this opinion.

I am a mechanical engineer, spent a lot of time as a machinist and I know I can make one pretty easily.

My Question is twofold-

How many people would be interested in purchasing one?

How much would you be willing to spend?

I am going to machine one out for myself on the CNC but I would just like to know how much people are willing to spend to see if its worth my time to set everything up.

I saw that @funflyer made one that turned out really nice IMHO and it seemed to be well recieved.

Hokahey,

Trojan

I would be interested in 2 of them.  I'm thinking the $35-$40 range each??  Would they be made from aluminum or steel?

I'm with Gerry, 2 for me and about the same price range.

thanks

Thanks Guys.

I think I can probably make that work. When I get mine made I will post some pictures. Its not worth it for 4 but perhaps I can draw some more interest after I have mine finished up.

I'd like to have several ... and I'd prefer stainless steel

Another voice of interest here. I would go for one. Probably the same price range as above.

What I dislike about the R51 trigger isn't so much that it's plastic.  Actually that doesn't bother me at all.  It's the slight side-to-side wiggle that bugs me.

Peace favor your sword,

Not sure I would be able to install one,  but if I thought I could,  I'd like one with a wider face,  and perhaps a bit of curve on the tip?

I would love one. $30 range would be perfectly doable.

Yes I am rather bothered by the plastic trigger on this otherwise all steel or aluminum gun.  While I would go for a metal trigger (steel, Al, whatever) in principle, I have since come to the opinion that the effort is futile more trouble than it's worth if the trigger in question doesn't have the capability of adjustable take-up on the reset.

Where I'm coming from is the comment frequently seen on this forum about how the R51 muzzle tends to shake with the release of the sear.  IMHO, this is due to the about 3/32's to 1/8'ths inch of travel in the trigger after the release of the sear; the 'bump' experienced at the end of the trigger's travel is what is causing the muzzle shake.  Does your trigger resolve that?  If so I'd consider paying as much as a hundred dollars for it.  Otherwise I'll pass.

    Thanks for offering though.

I hear there may be one in the works...

Specifically designed not to wobble, too...

I'm glad to see someone else is taking the initiative. Now I don't have to. :) Unless for some reason someone specifically wants one from me I will just go ahead and drop the subject for now.

You should jump on the fiber optic front sights. Triggers are going to keep me busy for the time being, and this pistol would benefit from a nice, bright FO sight.

Engineer,

I'll think about it. I don't really mind the sights myself. I have a couple other projects that I am working on so that'll be a back burner for sure.

I too am very interested in a new (not wobbly) trigger. If you're taking requests... I think the skeletonized stock trigger looks wrong on this gun. The gun has a retro look, the stock trigger looks too modern.
If the trigger functions well I would want 3 (and maybe some good installation instructions)

Thanks

I will keep an eye on this thread & wait for the offering.
Just ordered a set of fiber optic sights from Remington yesterday.
I wish someone would offer a shorter front sight to get back to where I normally aim though.

If you've never taken the trigger out, no worries, it's a piece of cake. The pivot pin is drifted out left to right (facing the read of the frame), and the action bar is a short roll pin. Takes about 2 min if you're being careful.

I want one, the plastic trigger is an insult to any shooter and waste of my time.  I never seen any gun with a bad trigger like the R51.

Keep looking for updates on the triggers but don't see any.
Any news or projected date ?

In for one <50

It's not the material that bothers me but the sideways slop and overtravel after the very firm crisp wall. Overtravel's doable on a mushy wall-less trigger but on a crisp wall on the heavy side... no bueno.

Are there any other colors being offered in later runs?  I think silver or black in an echo of what OEM metal triggers from Remington would look like would be cool.

Just received my red skeletonized trigger! Lightning fast service, excellent little instruction sheet! I believe I can install with no problems as soon as I pick up a couple pin punches. (3/32 roll pin punch; 3/32 pin punch) as stated therein. The pistol will feel much better with the lateral wiggling corrected. Order one, you won't be sorry! Springfield Art. Thanks, DangerCo.  Word of caution; the tiny pin supplied is small! Don't let it fall out of the plastic container as I did. I found it nearby on the floor, luckily.  :D

I received my trigger. Looks well made. Service was fantastic. Installation instructions included. I too need a roll pin punch and will attempt installing it myself.

Hi, folks. People should be aware of what a 'roller pin' punch is. Machinists will know, but I was unaware and most hardware stores or big box tool depts. have no idea! It's just that a roller pin is a hollow tube, and the punch has a little ball-like protrusion that nestles into the hollow end, protecting the pin, unlike a regular punch that can just push out a solid pin with no problem. I ordered a 3/32" roller pin punch from Home Depot, for a few bucks, free delivered to my local store to pick up. So now we've all learned something more about guns, thanks to DangerCo! Don't waste time driving all over to a bunch of hardware stores looking for the punch; go on line and get one. I'm sure doing the installation myself is going to be fun. The skeletonized red trigger I got looks great! I carry EDC now a lot more, and have a good feel for the R51. Thanks, all.
