I've owned Remington rifles and shotguns for years, but this is my first pistol.  I know they had some issues in the past, but I figured I would give the R51 a try.

Welcome. Give it a try and tell us what you think... Joe

I didn't have much time to shoot, but I managed to run about 20 rounds through. I had 1 round that didn't feed, but no issues with the others.  Having no trigger reset takes a little getting used to, but I think I just need more practice with it. So far, I like it.

Jmelchio,
You are on the right track.   Take some time,  shoot a bunch of rds, and get used to the gun.   Do not believe what trolls say on other websites.
We will back you up and give you good advice.   If you have a problem, ask us.   We know the drill!

Blackie,

Thanks, will do. Do you have any recommendations on ammo? I've been going through the posts to see if one is better than the rest, but I haven't found one yet.

  Thanks for the info.

Joe,
i use Ruger ARX for carry,  and as long as I have had the gun,   after prolonged tests proved it out,   I shoot whatever extra 9MM I have
in my ammo drawers.   It even likes Winchester White Box.   But that is just my gun.   Get comfortable with the gun,  try different brands.
this is what we did.   Then try some carry rounds.   I am comfortable ARX, but that is just me.

My R51 really likes the profile and feed characteristics of the Hornady Critical Duty which uses the 135gr FlexLock.

I'm seriously considering trying a small run of 115gr FTX for handloading.

I second the Ruger ARX - super accurate, low recoil, and devastating on soft targets. As I said in another thread, the only weird thing is the little triangular holes they leave in paper. I use the .380 version of ARX in my PPK and Sig P238 as well.

Welcome aboard jmelchio! As far as defensive ammo goes, I have had perfect success with Federal Hyrda-Shocks . Just keep shooting, and enjoy your new pistol!

Thanks for all of the information.  I had a good day at the range yesterday. It didn't start out great, but it was my fault. After I cleaned the pistol last time, I didn't put the slide stop back in correctly. It was above the spring, so every time I fired, the slide locked open. After I fixed the slide stop, I went through about 80 rounds without any failures.

I shot about 70 rounds of standard Remington 115 grain FMJ ammo, and a couple of clips of the ARX ammo. All fired without issue.

The trigger does have a reset I could feel, but it's out farther than my other pistols. Once I  figured out where it was, I felt it after every shot.

I like the pistol more each time I shoot it.

Thanks again for all of the information. I do appreciate it.

Joe
